Borromeo Unity Day
“You could feel the Holy Spirit making us all one!”
I heard and could feel how everyone was so uplifted who
joined in the Unity Day Mass and BBQ—around 700 people all
mixing and getting to know different people—each of whom are
a blessing/gift from God to us all.
A huge thank you from my heart to each one of us who
pray and work to bring greater unity to our beautiful Borromeo
family. A special word of thanks to so many people who gave
freely and graciously of their time in the preparation and fulfillment of our Unity Day celebration:

Stewardship Sunday
WOW! What a Blessed Year God gave us in the 20102011 fiscal year. First, I praise God and thank you for our
Spiritual Growth and Report: 80 Baptisms and 11 new Catholic sisters/brothers along with so many Sacramental celebrations
and students and new members—131 households!
Secondly, God working through your generosity and active
support of Jesus’ Work through our Borromeo Family is inspiring. Take a look at the Annual Financial Report later in
this bulletin. You provided substantial increases in Sunday
Offerings and Matching Gifts and Tuition which allowed us this
year to hire Mary Kutchback for Ministry with our Seniors and
Homebound as well as another full time teacher in school as a
learning coach for all the students, and more maintenance
hours. We also chose not to raise tuition at all for this current
year even though costs keep rising, such as salaries and benefits.
Thirdly, check out the total report on the Capital Campaign up to now. You all have brought these buildings to the
best shape since new. This past year’s projects were:
Church Roof
$44,896
Church Carpet/Marble
$22,220
School Window Caulking
$25,590
Parking lot new asphalt & crack filling
$9,097
4 New Awnings
$800
New Rectory siding/soffits (old was rotted)
$6,752
New School Water Heater
$12,000
And look for your name in the Appreciation Donor Book on
the beautiful wooden stand in the Narthex!
We need everyone who is able to continue donating in the
Monthly Capital Improvement Envelopes for these and other
improvements which will be inevitable:
Church Windows and sealing of
upper blue ones to stop water leakage
$70,000
Gym Roof needs sibercoating
$7,000
Gym AC compressor
$5,000
Gym floor needs replacing
???
(Our SCB Athletic Association will help with this)
God is truly providing so much of our Borromeo Ministries and work of Jesus ongoing here in St. Charles through
you!

We All Miss Pat Johnston
I am still in shock and so sad over our losing Pat. He was
so gifted and caring and helpful—a true gift from
God. My heart and prayers go out to Jill and their daughters
Emily and Madeline and to our Choir, whose pain I cannot
imagine.
Thank you, Lord, for the times and praise we shared with
Pat (and with each member of our beautiful Borromeo Family). Thank you, Lord, for your boundless mercy on us all.

Pray-ers Needed!
Have you tried giving an hour of time to pray to our
Lord Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration? It is truly more a
gift and grace of Jesus to you than you to Him.
Eucharistic Adoration at St. Charles Borromeo
is held the 3rd Monday of each month (September
19) from 8:30am to 6:30pm, and we especially
need an individual or two for the hours of 1011am and 4-5pm.
Please call Carol Pappas at 928-6722 or
[email protected].
With faith and love we entrust the soul of our beloved Pat
Johnston to the mercy of God. In taking on the position
as choir director in November of 2000, he not only led
the choir but the congregation as well in praising God in
music and song at our 10am Sunday Masses and all the
major liturgical feasts and holy days. We certainly appreciated his vocal talents when he took the mic,
and his trumpet and flute playing filled the
church with beautiful music. He was not
only a talented musician, but a genuinely
nice guy. We offer our prayerful sympathy
to his wife Jill and their daughters Emily and
Madeline. Funeral/memorial arrangements
have not yet been determined.

THANK YOU for the great love you show to our Borromeo
Family carrying on the work of Jesus and to those in need by
the generosity you display when you share your Treasure,
and all God’s gifts to you, given for others.
“’ You too go into my vineyard.’”
MATTHEW 20:4
In today’s Gospel we see how much Our Lord wants us
to be co-workers with Him. Just as the Master went out
repeatedly to invite more workers into his vineyard, so
Our Lord continually calls us to participate more fully
in the Church. Life on earth is short. How many times
does God have to call us, before it is too late? Even the
workers who entered the vineyard late were paid well.
Do we want to be left standing alone in the marketplace
for all eternity because we failed to fulfill our jobs as
Christian stewards?
Invited to be God’s co-workers, we pray that we may joyfully
participate in the work of the vineyard by sharing our time,
our talents and our treasure.

Parent Support Network
September 22, 7:00 p.m., Bicentennial Room
Are you seeking support from parents with a child like
yours?
This network seeks to offer spiritual support, resources,
and sharing for parents of children who have a physical,
mental, educational, or emotional disability. Maybe your
child is experiencing difficulties from autism, physical disabilities, adoption, divorce, or family illness. Perhaps you
have lived and learned from these situations and want to
share your knowledge with other parents.
We are a group of parents desiring to have a place to
share our thoughts, feelings, and needs and to give each
other support in dealing with situations we may have in any
part of our lives! We want to establish a network of support and resources to help us be better parents in our Christian community.
Join us as we gather in September to start this network.
Confidentiality is a given! What is shared in this network of
parents will stay with the network!
Join us on September 22 to help us kick off this faithbased network. Babysitting provided!
Welcome to St. Charles Borromeo Parish!
St. Charles Borromeo School
Dear Parishioners:
During this coming week our students in grades 3-8 will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, the standardized test used
by the Archdiocese to help teachers, parents, and students assess growth in academics and areas in need of improvement.
Unlike our colleagues in public schools, these tests are not used to measure the effectiveness of the school itself. The intent
has always been to be one tool of many that we use to formulate a picture of student progress. Please offer your prayers
of support for our students this week as they do their best to complete the tests.
I want to thank all of you who use your Target Red Card to apply to St. Charles Borromeo School. Last week we received a check for over $1,000 for last year’s rewards! Thank you so much! If you aren’t aware of the program, please
inquire at Target how you can sign up. It costs you nothing and the benefit to us is great! We are so blessed to receive
the benefit of a number of rebates and incentives such as the Boxtops for Education, Campbell’s Soup labels, and recycling
of paper, to name a few! We are always grateful for your support!
God bless, Mrs. Ann Hoffman

RCIA: A Journey in Faith
What is the RCIA?
A Journey in Faith
RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is
the process by which adults who are not Catholics are
welcomed into the Christian Family in the Catholic
Church.
Who is it for?
All are welcome to join in the Journey in Faith. Many
ordinary parishioners find the sessions helpful to develop
their knowledge of their faith and their understanding of
its traditions.
Perhaps you are married to a Catholic and wish to find
out more about your spouse’s faith. Perhaps you are already a Catholic and wish to grow more in your faith.
Or perhaps you aren’t Catholic but have thought about
becoming a Catholic. The RCIA Journey in Faith is for all
of you!
Becoming a Catholic is not just a matter of learning and
accepting a number of beliefs. It is a process of growth
and conversion. This is why it is called a “Journey in
Faith.” It involves personal growth, as well as growing
into a particular Catholic community or parish. For this
reason each parish in the Catholic Church is responsible
for its own RCIA process.
The Door is Open—All Are Welcome
RCIA evenings are open to all who wish to find out more
about becoming a Catholic, regardless of the desire to be
baptized or confirmed at the end of the process.
Sponsors
Those who want to enquire more seriously into becoming a Catholic will need a sponsor, who will pray for and
support the enquirer in the journey in faith. The sponsor
is meant to be a fellow pilgrim on the journey, and must
be a Catholic. The sponsor may be a spouse or friend.
However, if the enquirer does not know anyone suitable,
the parish will be happy to suggest someone.
When and Where?
Tuesdays at 7:00pm in the Bicentennial Room. Please
contact Becca McCullough, Director of Reigious Education, 636-946-2916 or [email protected].
Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 18, 2011
SCB Religious Education
Today we welcome the return of Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 8:30am Sunday Mass.
Children’s Liturgy is geared for children in grades K thru 4 and is designed to help children better understand the readings and the Gospel each Sunday at Mass.
“At one point, children were brought to him so that he could place his hands on them in
prayer. The disciples began to scold them, but Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me.
Do not hinder them. The kingdom of God belongs to such as these’” (Matthew 19:1-14)
The priest dismisses the children at the beginning of Mass to the catechist. The children and catechist proceed to the cafe where the children hear the readings, the Gospel, and an explanation in words that they understand. The
children then return to Mass at a time when the interruption of the congregation can be minimized, for instance, during
the collection.
There are many reasons that our Liturgy of the Word for Children program is so beneficial. An attempt is made to make
the Liturgy of the Word more comprehensible to the children. Parents can listen more attentively to the Liturgy of the
Word. The children can be given explanations of ways to live the Good News they just heard. The children become
more a part of the Word, because they now better understand the readings and the Gospel. The program allows the parish another opportunity for catechesis.
Our Children’s Liturgy Catechists are:
Mary Shelburne
Carrie Kremer
Katy Smith
Linda Rathz
Maureen Prinster
Aimee Koester
Monique Winkler
Angel Taylor
Kari Wilson
Beth Norviel
Anita Karase
Tricia Hermann
PSR in the Park! Look how we celebrated Unity Day last Sunday. Mrs. Saale teaches First Grade around the picnic
blanket; our parish’s First Communicants connect their paper chain links together; and children held the chain during the
Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Ladies of our Parish—this is for You! Women’s Fellowship continues on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 6am
to 8am in the St. Charles Room of the café. Women in our parish are invited to participate in the Bible study: Women in
the New Testament. This study has 8 lessons, and as we learned from our previous gathers, we need
time to reflect and discuss these lessons. So, we will take about 8 months to complete the study—
answering half the questions each time we meet. This study will lead us into discussion and prayer about
expectant faith, what it means to be touched by Jesus, and the meaning of discipleship through the lives
of the women who lived in the first generation of Christianity.
For more information call Carrie Kremer, 922-2564 or Becca McCullough 946-2916. The fall gatherings
are September 24, October 8 and 22, November 12 and 26 and December 10! And Come As You Are is
expected! No lipstick? - no problem. Too early? - we serve coffee! No time to do your hair? - we love hats! If you miss
a week, or can’t commit to every week, we would still love to have you join us when you can—extra materials are available for “drop ins.”
Welcome to St. Charles Borromeo Parish!
Getting Ready for the New Roman Missal Beginning November 26/27
A time for renewed attendance and participation and love for our Mass
The following timetable will be used at our parish to prepare for the changes beginning Advent 2011:
September 18: Keep Holy the Lord’s Day: why we get to go to Mass or why the Mass is most central to
Catholics.
September 25: The Essential Role of the Assembly: All of us are called to full, active, conscious participation in the Mass (not just to watch the actors in a show)
October 2: Worshipping with Body, Mind, Soul, Music, Voice and Silence: Why we greet, genuflect,
bow, kneel, stand, sit and shake hands, etc.
October 9: The Introductory Rites: Penitential Rite and Gloria (which will be practiced at the end of the homily and will
be used every time the Gloria is sung from then on)
October 16: The Liturgy of the Word: Listening to God’s voice in the sacred Scriptures and the following silence, and our
response in the Creed and General Intercessions
October 23: The Liturgy of the Eucharist: Offering and Preparation of our Gifts, Preface and Holy, Holy (which will be
practiced after homily and used from then on)
October 30: The Eucharistic Prayer(s): Participating in the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ’s dying, rising and return in the
Epiclesis, Consecration, Anamnesis, Acclamation, and Great Amen.
November 6: Preparing for Holy Communion: The Lord’s Prayer, Sign of Peace, Lamb of God, “Lord, I am not worthy .
. . “ (these sung parts will be practiced again after homily and used then on)
November 13: Holy Communion: Transubstantiation into the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
November 20: The Concluding Rite: Sent out to live the Mass as the Body of Christ.

CRHP was an amazing experience. It was the first time
in my life I actually felt the Holy Spirit working right in
front of me! Watching and listening to people who have
had Jesus touch their lives so deeply, opened my heart to
so many opportunities with God I often overlooked.
CRHP has made me a more patient mother, wife and
person. It has changed the way I deal with life’s everyday occurrences. I am so grateful for the opportunity to
attend!

CRHP fue una experiencia maravillosa. Fue la primera vez
en mi vida que realmente sentí al Espíritu Santo actuando
frente a mi!

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 18, 2011
Agradacemos a Javier

Your Spiritually Adopted Baby…
DAY ONE
At the moment the father’s sperm and mother’s egg
unite a new and unrepeatable human being comes into
existence, complete with his own unique set of DNA.
Although he is only one cell, everything about this little
person is already present: color of eyes, blood type, the
height he will grow to be, color of hair—everything! He
will play a role in his family and his community—a role
only he can play! Nothing is added after conception to
make him a complete human being. He already exists;
all he needs is nourishment, a safe, warm environment,
and most of all—love. His parents don’t even know he
exists yet. Pray for them to safely bring their baby to
birth so he can fulfill the mission God has for him.
