Mechanics and Criteria for the 22nd National Statistics Month Essay Writing Contest
This Essay Writing Contest is part of the activities for the 22nd National Statistics Month
(NSM). The opening ceremony of 22nd NSM will be on October 3, 2011.
A. Mechanics
1. The 22nd National Statistics Month (NSM) Essay Writing Competition is open to
all college students from the National Capital Region.
2. The theme of the essay writing contest shall be: “Quality Social Protection
Statistics for Focused Targeting: Improving Outcomes, Changing Lives”.
3. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 500 words and must
not exceed 2000 words.
4. All essays must be original and previously unpublished.
5. All entries will be judged based on content, originality, structure and style.

Paper size: A4 bond papers
Font style: Arial (title must be in bold text)
Font size: 11
Spacing: double space
Alignment: justified
Margin: 1 inch margin on each side
Interested participants must personally submit their entries to the National
Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) at DSWD
Complex, IBP Road, Batasan Pambansa, Constitution Hills, Quezon City, with the

8. Deadline of the submission of entries shall be on September 5, 2011.
9. All entries shall be judged by a Board of Judges composed of experts on the
fields of statistics, social services, academe, and practitioners.
10. The prizes shall be:
1st Place- P25,000.00
2nd Place – P15,000.00
3rd Place – P10,000.00
11. Awarding of the winner shall be during the 22nd NSM Opening Ceremony which
shall be on October 3, 2011.
B. Criteria for Judging
