www.sw-it-ch.net In September 2015 we will offer training for CompTIA A+ certification, a level 2 trade qualification which covers maintenance of PCs, mobile devices, laptops, operating systems and printers. We will run 10am to 4pm, 5 days a week for 39 weeks over the year. Training will be delivered by Ryan Evans, assisted by an LSA and, depending on the number of trainees, care staff who will assist with leisure activities and provide additional support. At the beginning of the programme, each trainee will receive components with which to build their own PC, which they will then work on and take with them when they leave. Lessons will each be approximately 35 minutes long. As they progress, trainees will first observe, and then undertake supervised repairs to laptops and pc's as they are brought in by customers. Social and leisure time will be built into the day as we are very keen for the trainees to form a social group. Access to an intranet will be provided so that they can contact one another out of hours and access course material online. We want to encourage trainees to identify their specific areas of interest and to work on their own projects, e.g. should a trainee be interested in programming, we will provide software etc to allow them to explore this as an option. Having passed the A+ in their first year, trainees will benefit from a second year of work experience in our repair service and community project (providing refurbished IT equipment to the community). The hours and holidays will reflect those normally found in the workplace (i.e. 9am to 5pm with 35 days annual leave to be agreed upon). By replicating real working conditions, we aim to provide a failure-free environment in which any potential issues can be identified and resolved. Trainees can also opt to attend mobile phone and tablet repair training courses. We aim to offer all our graduates at least a one-year contract, and are excited to see how their specialised paths of interest influence our growth and direction as a company. We are building relationships with forward-thinking IT companies to create further employment opportunities for our graduates and aim to become the first port of call for IT companies recruiting certified, experienced junior IT Technicians. Course fees are £25,000 per annum and, with the recent changes to SEN Law, it may be possible to secure funding through Oxfordshire County Council for young people up to the age of 25.
