Transport Changes – England v Samoa, QBE International, 22nd

Transport Changes – England v Samoa, QBE International, 22nd November,
7pm KO
INFOSHEET
Detailed below is information regarding the London bound shuttle buses and the Kempton
Park and Ride services that will be trialled on the 22nd November, England v Samoa match.
Should you have any questions about either service then please contact Hannah Barrett at
[email protected].
Why are we introducing a park and ride service and London bound bus shuttles?
The RFU are looking for effective ways to move spectators quickly from the local area
following a match. As the Samoa QBE International kicks off at 7pm, it gives us a good
opportunity to trial new measures which if successful could be incorporated into the ten
games at Twickenham during the Rugby World Cup 2015.
Will these services add to congestion on the roads?
The idea behind these services is that it will help to relieve match day congestion and move
spectators out of the area more quickly. There should be no increase in congestion.
London bound shuttle buses
Where will the buses be positioned for pick up?
Buses will be located on the A316, between the Curries roundabout and the London Road
roundabout.
At what times are the buses in operation?
The buses will be available immediately after the game has finished (estimate 8.30pm) and
will be moved from the area once they are all full. We estimate this will take no longer than
two hours post-match and multiple buses will be boarded simultaneously.
How many buses will there be?
There will be 30 buses in total ready to move around 3,000 spectators away from
Twickenham. These buses will wait with their engines off until spectators start to board so
they are ready to move as soon as they are full.
How will the spectators/queuing be managed?
Rather than a queue, we expect a steady movement of spectators onto the buses and away
from Twickenham. The RFU will employ additional stewards to deal with the system and be
on hand to direct people to the new services. There will also be clear signage throughout the
wider area.
Please see the attached map for further details of London bound shuttle buses.
Kempton Park and Ride
Where will the buses be positioned for drop off and pick up?
The buses will drop off and pick up on the inside lane of the A316 next to Rosebine car park.
At what time are the buses in operation? Buses will drop off in front of Rosebine carpark
from around 4pm until around 7.30pm. After the match, the buses will be in operation from
8.30pm to 10.00pm (estimated).
How many buses will there be?
There will be 10 buses in total working on the Park and Ride service. These buses will wait
with their engines off until spectators start to board so they are ready to move off as soon as
they are full.
Will the buses affect the movement of cars out of Rosebine car park?
No. Cars parked in Rosebine car park will be able to exit as a normal match day meaning
there is no additional congestion.
How will the spectators/queuing be managed?
Rather than a queue, we expect a steady movement of spectators onto the buses and away
from Twickenham. The RFU will employ additional stewards to deal with the system and
volunteers will also be on hand to direct people to the new services. There will also be clear
signage throughout the area.
Please see the attached map for further details on of the Kempton Park and Ride.
