Aims of the subject: To provide pupils with a creative learning experience that will give them the confidence and enthusiasm to further their
education in Art.

Assessment Overview: The course is broken into 2 units; unit 1 is worth a possible total of 60% while unit 2 is worth a possible 40%.
Internal assessments are graded on their ability to meet deadlines and the requirement to meet the 4 Assessment Objectives which are used
throughout the course.

Year 9
What will I learn?
Term 1
Distortion – Portraiture/Still Life/Natural Form
I will experience a variety of materials and techniques when exploring the idea
of distortion. Essential skills will be recorded to help me meet the demands of
the GCSE course later in years 10 and 11.
Stencil/Graffiti Art
I will use both a contemporary and traditional approach when investigating the
work of contemporary artists.
Term 2
Natural Form/Mark-Making
After enlarging an image I will use my understanding of tone/form to create a
study of natural form.
African Masks
I will learn and use techniques learnt previously to design and make a 3D
mask.
Assessment
Pupils design a poster using a mixture of
appropriate techniques.

Landscapes – Collograph Printing
After looking at the landscape I will draw shapes and use the rules of
perspective. I can use textures to represent aspects of the landscape which
will translate into a print.
Year 10
Term 1:
Unit 1/Controlled Assessment
Animals Plants and Birds – 60% total mark
Observational Drawing Sheet
Patrick Heron Sheet
I will learn how to draw accurately using both traditional and experimental
techniques. I will make references to the artist Patrick Heron. I will
investigate patterns found in nature which will inspire my printing. I will
record my ideas through different media/approaches/techniques.
Term 2:
Layering/Experiments/Textiles – Experimental Booklet
I will experiment with techniques and materials and present my results in a
handmade booklet. I will refer to the artist James Fox whose textile work is
layered.
Term 3:
Mock Exam
After looking at the artist Mark Hearld I will continue to develop my ideas
about animals, plants and birds. I will experience/practise some new
techniques that help me work in the artist’s style.
Summer Project – pupils work in the style of Michel Keck.
Deadline given for completion for

Year 11
Term 1:

Michel Keck Sheet
I present my work on Michel Keck and also my Mark Hearld sheet. I will plan
for and make a vessel which will reflect all or some of the experiences I have
had throughout unit 1.
Year 11 Mock Exam – I will make and
decorate a vessel using the influences I
have experienced on the course.
Term 2:
Unit 2- Exam Unit – Controlled Test
40% Total Mark
I will be given my GCSE Art exam paper in which I will have a choice of
starting points. With my teacher’s guidance I will address all the Assessment
Objectives thoroughly and with care. My exam preparation will show clear
progression from my chosen starting point towards a final outcome which I will
do in the exam.
Term 3:
Exam preparation continued...................
The final stages of my preparation show planning for my final outcome with
clear connections shown to an artist or culture.
GCSE Art Exam
Extra-curricular opportunities
GCSE students have the opportunity to work after school on 3 days of the week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from
1505 – 1615 hrs. This opportunity will help pupils keep up with the group and meet deadlines.
How you can support your child’s progress

Encourage pupils to meet homework deadlines and all other deadlines given on the course.
Regarding above, please encourage pupils to use the After School Clubs.

Please encourage GCSE pupils to spend more time on homework tasks, work may be used for controlled assessment
and can sometimes be an extended exercise.
Some basic equipment at home such as colouring pencil crayons, sharpener, 2B pencil and Art folder would be helpful.
