DLM Chapter 13: DMDDBR Definition Database Report

Chapter 13
DMDDBR
Definition Database Report
DMDDBR Definition Database Report  509
DMDDBR
This chapter covers information on only UNIX, and VMS operating systems. DMDDBR
is not supported on Windows operating systems.
Purpose:
The DMDDBR utility can be used to generate reports based on the contents of the
Definition Database. DMDDBR is a prompt- and menu-driven interactive utility that uses
the BASIS Report Writer (DMRW) module and a set of command procedures to generate
reports that can be displayed or printed. DMDDBR requires installation of the Report
Writer module at your site.
Operating Systems:
UNIX, VMS
Syntax:
UNIX, VMS
DMDDBR UID=id UPW=pw
{INPUT=infile}
{OUTPUT=outfile}
Parameters:
For instructions about entering parameters on various operating systems, see Tables 1-1
and 11-1.
510  DMDDBR Definition Database Report
Required Parameters:
UID=id
(Required)
See Table 11-2.
UPW=pw
(Required)
See Table 11-2.
Optional Parameters:
INPUT=infile
(Optional)
See Tables 11-2 and 11-3.
OUTPUT=outfile
(Optional)
See Tables 11-2 and 11-3.
Description:
Entering DMDDBR starts a Report Writer session and automatically executes a command
procedure:
For . . .
the command procedure is . . .
UNIX
$DM_DDBR/mm.prc
VMS
DM$DDBR:MM.PRC
This command procedure displays the first of a series of menus. From these menus you
can generate one or more of over forty different reports. After you have chosen a report
type and answered a series of questions, the Report Writer module generates the report.
DMDDBR Definition Database Report  511
You must be authorized for the User Data Model (UDM) of the Definition Database
(DDB) you have chosen. Because there is no default DDB, you must enter the name of
the DDB. (DMDDBR will preface the DDB name with an X if necessary. (All DDB
names are the name of the Record Database (RDB) prefaced by an X.) One of your
choices in DMDDBR’s main menu is to change to another database.
DMDDBR prompts you for the destination of the report. You can display it at your
terminal, send it to an OUTPUT file, or both. Every report has a standard output file
name. If you’ve chosen a standard output file as the destination, the file must not already
exist when DMDDBR tries to create it. Changing the destination of the report is also a
main menu option.
To select most reports, you need to answer a series of questions. With the answers you
enter as responses to prompts, DMDDBR constructs and executes a FIND command.
The result set made from the FIND command is used for the report.
Some answers must be given in a specific format. For example, if you choose “Record
Report,” DMDDBR needs you to provide the names of one or more record types that the
report should include. The prompt will give you the acceptable formats, which include
the name of a single record type, a list of record types, a range of record types, or a record
name pattern.
Files in a particular location contain the command procedures and reports that make up
DMDDBR. These files can be used as model examples of menu-driven database systems.
For . . .
the location is . . .
UNIX
$DM_DDBR directory
VMS
