SEPTEMBER 2013
READY. SET.
LET’S GO CAMPING!
Our Teen Queen 2013, Rebecca Coniglio,
Florida’s first Teen Queen in 16 years.
She competed at Campvention in July in
Amana, Iowa
The 2013 Retiree King and Queen, Tommy
and Alice Garner from Georgia attended the
FSA Spring Campout in Umatilla. A cake
was enjoyed by all.
FROM THE STATE DIRECTOR:
I hope that many of you took advantage of the Cadet Membership Contest that was announced in
the April Camping Today and I talked about at the FSA Spring Campout. The aim was to add 20% new
members to our numbers, which in our case is about 20. I hope that many of you have been out there
encouraging people to check us out. September 30 is the deadline to get them in, so if you haven’t given
out a Cadet membership, now is the time to do it.
For my records, I would like to obtain the e-mail addresses for all Florida members, so that I can
send out information that needs to get to everyone. Please send me an e-mail so that I can add you to
my list. I know I have a lot of them, but I am missing a lot too!
The Retiree Rally in Rayne, Louisiana, in March was a lot of fun. Unfortunately only eight Florida
members and two snowbird members were able to come. The weather was perfect, and the activities
were well attended. We are now looking forward to March 2014 in Canton, Texas. Plan now to attend.
The First Monday Flea Market will be right after we are there, so you can enjoy that too. It is the biggest
flea market you may ever see!
We missed a lot of you at the FSA Spring Rally in Umatilla. The facility was nice and the FSA
Officers kept us busy all weekend. We crowned Rebecca Coniglio as our 2013 Teen Queen. We haven’t
had a Teen Queen since 1997, so it is a treat to see some young people at our campout.
The Southeast Regional Campout was in Marion, North Carolina, in June. There were only a few
Floridians at the rally but attendance was good: 72 rigs attended. FCRV members from North Carolina
kept us busy every day, and the weather really cooperated with us.
The National Campvention was in Amana Colonies, Iowa, in July. It was VERY HOT, but the
buildings were air conditioned and made it bearable. We had a nice showing of Floridians and former
Floridians. Our Florida Breakfast was a big success and we all got lots to eat! Rebecca, our Teen Queen
did a nice job competing, and I felt she did a good job. She was much more poised than some of the
girls. The new FCRV Teen Queen was from Kentucky, following her sister who was the 2012 Teen Queen.
We hope that many of you support the FSA Campout in November. Our state needs everyone’s
support, so come and have fun with your FCRV friends.
Join us on Facebook at Florida Family Campers. And check out the new revised National FCRV
web site at fcrv.org for information on National events. The web site is definitely “new and improved”.
Keep on Camping!

From Florida State Association President,
The FSA Memorial Day Rally was held 5/24/13 – 5/27/13 at Olde Mill Stream RV Resort in
Umatilla Florida.
We had 19 rigs attend. We were honored to have the “International King and Queen”; Tommy
and Alice Garner attend. Pam Likins crowned Rebecca Coniglio as Teen Queen.
Rebecca put on a
short talent skit for us. So we had “Royalty” attending our events.
There was lot of food; hamburger luncheon, hot dog luncheon, sausage and pancake breakfast, pork loin supper and of course we had a pot luck supper.
We had a short surprise visit from Gail and Perry Olyer (always good to see them-both are
looking well). Jim and Dolly Riley were able to visit and run our Bunco game on Monday afternoon.
(Good to see them/thanks for attending). Marilyn Jackson was able to rent a park model and attend.
(We always enjoy her and her outlook on life).
Jane Brown retired from her position as Secretary of FSA. President Larry Preston presented
her with a “Certificate of Appreciation” for 6 years of service as your secretary. Pam Likins installed
Marilyn Jackson as the new secretary of FSA. (Thanks Marilyn for volunteering for the good of the
Club.)
A BIG THANKS to everyone who helped make this rally a success. (1st Vice President; Jake &
Lupe Jacobs, 2nd Vice President, Bob & Alice Garvin; Treasurer, Peter Brown; Secretary, Jane Brown)
and everyone else who helped with games, moved chairs, put out garbage and did anything they saw
needing to be done. When we work together it is amazing what can be done in a short time.
We have reserved Southern Oaks RV Resort, Summerfield, Fl. 34491 for the November FSA
Rally. Dates: 11/8/13 as early day-events in afternoon; go home on 11/11/13. We will check for any
Veterans Day events in the area for anyone that can stay the 11th and go home on the 12th.

Funny of the month:
At one point during a little league game, the coach call one of his 9yr old players aside
and asked, “Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?” The boy nodded
in the affirmative.
“Do you understand that what matters is whether we win or lose together as a team?”
the little boy nodded ‘yes’.
“So“, the coach continued, “I’m sure you know, when an out is called, you shouldn’t argue, curse, attack the umpire or call him a pecker-head, dickhead or asshole. Do you understand all that?” The little boy nodded yes again.
He continued, “and when I take you out of the game so another boy gets a chance to
play too, it's not good sportsmanship to call your coach ‘a dumb ass or shithead’, is it?”
the little boy shook is head ‘No’.
“GOOD”, said the coach, "Now go over there and explain all this to your Grandmother.”

GOLDEN LAKERS:
In January, we were at Arrowhead Campground in Ocala with the Browns as wagon masters, with the
Sunshine Travelers campout following on the weekend. We enjoyed a BBQ pork lunch and a chicken fried
steak dinner provided by the wagon masters. There was also a pot luck dinner for all to enjoy. Activities
during the days were outdoors, since it was a really nice week. We played holey board, bocce ball, hillbilly
golf, and a mini washer toss game. In the evenings, members were found playing cards, Rummy Q, and
Skip Bo. It was a nice group and everyone had a good time.
In February we were back at Paradise Oaks on February 24-28, with the Lanes as wagon masters. There
was no campout in March as several members went to the Retiree Rally in Rayne, LA. In April we camped
at the Methodist Camp in Leesburg, with Marilyn Jackson as wagon master. In May, eight rigs attended
the FSA Spring Campout in Umatilla. Good times, good fellowship and good food was enjoyed by all.
Only two members, the Browns and the Likins, went to Campvention in Iowa.
September 9-13 we will be at Paradise Oaks with the Browns as wagon masters. October 13-17, the Lanes
are planning a campout at Fisherman’s Cove in Tavares, November 8-11 will be at the FSA Fall Campout,
and December 15-19 will be back at Paradise Oaks with the Likins as wagon masters. More information is
available to anyone what wants to attend any of our campouts.

TRAVELERS
We camped at Arrowhead Campground in January, following the Golden Lakers campout. Lenny and
Marge DeMuro were the wagon masters and everyone had a good time, playing games and eating.
We were happy to have guests the Browns and the Prestons stay over for our campout.
In February we were at Oaks and Pines Campground in Lake City. The Likins were the wagon masters, but Dick was in the hospital until Saturday, so Bob and Helen Jones took over for us. We were
able to join the group on Saturday morning for breakfast and the meeting. We thank the Jones’s for
pitching in for us. There was no campout in March as some members went to Rayne for the Retiree
Rally. There was no campout in April, but several members attended the FSA Campout in Umatilla.
Our next campout will be at Oaks and Pines in October, with the Likins as wagon masters. Our November campout will be at the FSA Campout. Hope to see many of you there.

"NOW'S
YOUR CHANCE!!! At the upcoming FSA Rally in October, we will once again have
the opportunity to elect a new Florida Retiree King and Queen to reign for the rest of 2013
and 2014. If you are elected, it will be an honor, you will have a good time, and will continue the tradition of having a couple as our Retiree Royalty that has been going on for some
40 years. There is not much involved - you do not have to compete at the next National
Retiree Rally if you do not want to, and you will be honored and feted at all Florida functions for the coming year. If interested, contact us before or at the October FSA Rally.

Hello from your Southeast Regional Directors
June 11,2013
We had a busy summer camping season ahead of us. I know most of you are making your vacation plans. If you were not at the SER rally you missed a great time. North Carolina was
very a very good host and despite the rain, Tom Johnson's in Marion, NC is a great location.
We hope many of you are planning to attend Campvention in Iowa. There is a lot to do in the
surrounding area. Iowa has been working hard to provide something for everyone. We are
getting lower attendance at the rallies so it is important that we support them if at all possible or soon we will no longer be able to put them on. If you have not planned on going to
Iowa please reconsider.
The cadet program is in full swing until September. Please invite at least one family to join us.
Paul Trew can get you a cadet form if you need one. Our goal is to see each state grow by at
least 10 new members. With your help we can do this.
Next year's SER rally will be in Bushnell, FL. We have been to the campground there and we
think you will be pleased with the choice. The is a pool to entice the young people, 9 holes golf
course, and the grounds are very well kept.
Happy Camping.
Leon and LaNelle Ishmael
