Team members participating in the tournament must be current student members of their state ASRT affiliated society. 3. Teams will consist of no more than 4 participants but only 3 will play per game. One member must be identified as the Team Captain. 4. All team members must be enrolled in the same accredited program. 5. All teams must have two instructors available to serve as judge for each round of the tournament. If the team is not able to supply two judges, please contact Shelli Thacker as soon as possible to discuss other options ([email protected]). Competition Decorum: 1. In order to maintain the integrity of the question bank, no recording devices or taking of notes will be allowed in the competition rooms at any time. 2. Audience participation in answering questions intentionally or unintentionally is not allowed. 3. Anyone with a protest/grievance should submit, in writing, to an ISSRT Board Member, revisions for consideration in revising the rules for future competitions. 4. Anyone disrupting the competition or not abiding by the decorum rules will be escorted from the room by the Sergeant-at-Arms and will be barred from the competition rooms for the duration of the tournament and/or conference. 5. Intentional or unintentional noncompliance with competition rules may result in team disqualification. 6. Registration badges are required for admission to all competition sessions. 7. Traffic flow in and out of the competition rooms is restricted. Sergeant-at-Arms will allow this only between team pairings and competitions. 8. During Round 1, only guests and members of the schools competing in a particular room will be allowed in that room. The only exception is those students whose programs are not participating in the competition. 9. Smoking is not permitted in the competition rooms. 10. Team placement will be done in advance and copies will be placed in the registration packets that will be distributed at the conference. Competition Rules: 1. Team names will be drawn at random and assigned into groups of 4 or 5 per room. 2. Each round will be played as a round robin. At the start of each individual match, there will be a coin toss to determine which team begins first. The team to the left of the moderator will call first. 3. A total of 4 teams will advance to Round 2 of the competition. If there are 2 rooms for Round 1, the top 2 teams from each room with the highest win/loss point total from Round 1 will advance to Round 2. If there are 3 rooms in Round 2, the top team from each room with the highest win/loss point total from Round 1 will advance to Round 2 and a wild card team with the highest average game points between the 3 rooms will advance to Round 2. The following represents the points awarded: win = 2 points, tie = 1 point and loss = 0 points. The winner of Round 2 will be determined using the same win/loss formula. 4. The team from Round 1 with the highest overall aggregate point total (from all groups) will be declared the “wild card team”. This only works if there is an even number of teams participating. If there are an odd number of teams, the teams obtaining the highest percentage of total points won will advance to Round 2. There will be 5 teams in Round 2. 5. In case of a tie for first place, a tie-breaker round will be done. The tie breaker game is a condensed jeopardy game and the match will be 5 minutes in length. 6. The moderator will not serve as the judge of a question, its contents, or the answer. 7. The decision of the judges is final. Judges will not spend a lot of time for discussion to avoid loss of play time for the teams. No protests/grievances are allowed. 8. Questions must be answered specifically. For example, units included in measurements (500 milliseverts) or direction in central ray angles (37 degrees caudal). 9. All team members may participate an unlimited number of times during the competition, but substitutions must be made prior to each team pairing at the start of each game. 10. Each round of play will begin with a question for the Team that won the coin toss. The captain of the Team will have 5 seconds to choose a category and point value from the “Scholar Bowl” Categories slide (see below). Points awarded for each category are based on difficulty. 11. The moderator or appointee will click on the category from the PowerPoint slide and the question will be displayed. The moderator will read the question once and then a timer will be set for 20 seconds. During this time the teams may discuss their answers. Generally, the team captain will give the verbal response to each question unless he/she designates another team member to respond. A team that determines that they are unable to answer the question, may choose to pass which stops the 20 second time limit and immediately sends the question to the other team and allows them only 5 additional seconds to deliberate. 12. If Team #1’s answer is correct, points are recorded for Team #1. If Team #1answers incorrectly or does not begin its response within the 20 second time limit, Team #2 will have an additional 5 seconds to discuss its answer and respond to the same question. If Team #2 answers correctly, the points are recorded for Team #2. If neither of the teams answer the question correctly, the answer is read by the Moderator. 14. The moderator will click on the BACK button on the bottom of the screen and the Student Bowl Categories slide will be displayed again. Once a category has been opened, the heading on the slide will change color, indicating that it cannot be selected again. 15. The next question will be directed to Team #2. The team captain will have 5 seconds to select a category. Awarding of points will be handled as described above. 16.Rounds will continue until all of the questions have been used or an established game time limit (10 - 20 minutes) has elapsed. The game time limit will be determined based on the number of teams that have registered for the competition and will be announced at the orientation meeting. If a game time limit is used, there should be a two minute warning given prior to the end of the game, indicating the final round of questions. If times elapses during a question, the team answering the question will have the opportunity to complete the answer. The next team will not have the opportunity to answer after the time has elapsed. 17.The first, second, and third place teams will receive trophies.
