The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is a key UK response to the
challenges presented by increasing trends in international cyber threats. The
UK’s National Cyber Security Strategy, published in November 2017, called
out for the establishment of a national centre to coordinate and manage the
threats and incidents in a way that would reduce risk across sectors and grow
UK capability in cyber security. The overarching goal is to make the UK one of
the safest places to live and do business online.
As a part of standing up the NCSC, and in response to the mandate from the
national strategy, we have developed an initial strategic plan, that takes the
four goals of the NCSC and describes the underpinning objectives and
activities that will be our initial response. We plan to develop this initial
strategy to push out the planning horizon to five years, expose the
dependencies to other strategies across Government, and critically develop
the thinking about what the next significant developments within the NCSC
should be, as we respond to changes in technology, the threat environment
and the surrounding Government and national context.
In support of this next evolution of the NCSC strategy, we believe that
engaging with industry, both in terms of importing best practice in strategy
development and exposure to commercial awareness of the technology and
threat trends above, offers advantages to us and those organisations that we
chose to partner with.
Commitments are flexible, but typically candidates commit to two days a week
for a six-month period. The role is based at the NCSC HQ in Victoria, London
and, due to the nature of the work, candidates must hold a minimum of SC
clearance or be willing to undergo the clearance process.
