JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Swimming Coach
Responsible to:
Director of Swimming
Job purpose:
The Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching the development of
swimmers from junior squad and up to Regional qualifying standards
in swimming. The Assistant Coach would co-ordinate training,
competition schedules and administration so as to position Millfield at
the forefront of swimming development.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coaching junior swimmers from County to Regional Standard for up to 16 hours per week plus
weekend competitions. (Average 22 hours)
2. Assist the coaching of Multi sport athletes. (Including triathlon, biathlon and modern
pentathlon).
3. Attend specified competitions as agreed with the Director of swimming in line with the hours
indicated above.
4. Assist in Planning and implementing training programs including water and land based training
schemes.
5. Helping to facilitate the transition of swimmers from pre-squad development groups into the
competitive section.
6. Contributing to an effective coaching structure, and engaging actively in continuous personal
development and the development of Millfield Swimming.
7. any other duties that your line manager sees fit, providing that such duties are appropriate to
your role
Person Specification:
The Assistant Swimming Coach will have:
1. Experience within the world of swimming as a teacher, coach or athlete.
2. Minimum coaching qualifications at UKCC Level 1 Award for Coaching Swimming or
equivalent with UKCC Level 2 Coaching qualifications preferred.
3. Teaching qualifications of level 2 preferred.
4. Experience of coaching swimmers to a minimum of county championship standard and
experience of working with children in a contemporary professional environment.
5. Knowledge of the long-term development practices for young male and female athletes in
line with the British Swimming Long Term Athlete Development Pathway.
6. The ability to plan and implement training sessions in the water and on the land so as to
produce the development of skills and performance.
7. Understanding of the integration of successful sports’ performance programmes in to a
school’s educational environment.
The Assistant Swimming Coach will be:
