June 2017
Welcome from the Committee
Welcome to the first Debenham
Youth FC newsletter. The club
has decided to produce this to
keep all the players, parents,
officials, friends of the club and
the wider community informed
of what the club is doing and
what they are hoping to achieve
in the upcoming season.
Thank you
DYFC would like to thank all the
companies and people that
sponsored the club last season
and look forward to their
continued support in the future.

Fundraising
DYFC are a small community club
and fundraising is vital to our
success.
We try to keep the cost of player
registration to a minimum, this
year the fees will be £85.
However, the average cost for
each player in the club is £95. This
covers training fees, match fees,
referee fees, kit, equipment,
insurance, and registration with
the league/FA. We therefore as a
club have to find the funds to
supplement the difference. This is
where
fundraising
and
sponsorship comes in.
There are several events planned
including our annual Christmas
Dinner Dance. For these to be
successful we need your support
in
both
attending
and
contributing to these functions. If
this is something that you would
like to participate in then we
would be extremely grateful for
your support so please speak to
one of the team managers or
committee members.

Meet the Teams
U7 & U8s teams are being set up
and details will be issued in due
course.
U9s
Manager – Justin James
We train once a week for an hour
on a Wednesday 5-6 pm. We play
a minimum of 6 league matches
every term but also arrange
several friendlies. At this stage the
league is very informal, as the
emphasis is on the players
developing their interest and
ability in the game rather than the
pressure of winning. I try to make
the sessions relevant to nurturing
basic skills and understanding
with them playing as much actual
football as possible, with some
fun thrown in for added measure.
I have a happy little crew of 11,
and encourage them to think of
themselves as a team. "We are all
the most important player". Next
season we move from 5 to 7 a side
so I am always happy to welcome
new recruits.
U10s
Manager - Jason Ainge
My team has been together
since the U6 age group and I
have managed them since
April 2014. We started playing
matches the following season
and started to go to Suffolk FA

festivals. We are now in our
second season in the Gipping
league and made it to the
second round of the cup this
season.
I try to create a fun and friendly
atmosphere at training where I
try and get all players
comfortable playing with the
ball. At matches all players
play in all positions throughout
the season and are given equal
match time when selected. I
have
seen
a
great
improvement in the team and
it makes me proud of the team
that they are becoming.
U11’s
Manager – Paul Cooklin
I have been with this team since
2015, it was a team of mostly new
players to football, including my
own son.
I have been very pleased with
how our kids have grown as
players as we go in to this new
U11 season with new rules, 9
players instead of 7 playing
matches and a bigger match
pitch.
My rhetoric has always been
about 'effort' and not skill. Skills
can be taught and practised but
having a team of players who
consistently put in the effort
makes being their coach a
rewarding one.
I believe that kids who spend time
with a broader range of children,
not necessarily from their own
school, learn so much more than
just 'football' at our club. The
social interaction, exercise and
informal discipline can help focus
a child on things outside of their
everyday life which can be very
beneficial as they grow in to
young adults.
I am very fortunate to have the
help and support of Paul Goddard
who is our second coach and an
invaluable member of the squad,
offering advice from his former
days as a youth player.
Together with my own, albeit
distant memory of playing as a
child, I should hope we can
continue to encourage the kids to
play well and progress through
the FA program.
Club Welfare Officer – Judith
Hubert
All youth football clubs have to
appoint a Club Welfare Officer
(CWO), I have a background in
child protection and the courts.
In line with the FA's role profile, I
have completed the Safeguarding
Children and Welfare Officers
Workshops. As CWO, I will
continue to be involved with
welfare officer training provided
by the FA or County FA.
The CWO is the first point of
contact for anyone who has a
concern regarding the welfare of
a child or young person and is
involved with DYFC such as
coaches, parents, committee
members and players.
Safeguarding covers a whole
range of issues from verbal abuse,

playing conditions, poor practice
through to child protection. If
anyone is worried about a child or
young person, that concern needs
to be reported to the CWO. My
contact details are as follows:

The Way Forward
The committee and coaches of
DYFC are all volunteers. They give
up their free time so that the local
children can play football in a safe
and friendly environment. There
is a lot to do with running the
teams and the club to be able
maintain the standards and work
to the guidelines as laid down by
Suffolk FA and FA Chartered
Standards.
With more support from parents
this would leave more time for
the coaches to concentrate on
training and improving the teams
- so if you would like to volunteer
then please do get in touch at
[email protected].

Can you help with sponsorship?
The club is looking for local
businesses to make a donation
which will then be used for the
benefit of the club. There will
then be a ‘Friends of DYFC’
section on our notice board and
on our website advertising all
those that have donated.
If your donation is for new kit
then your logo will be printed on
all shirts.
If this is something that you would
like to be part of please contact a
member of the club or email
