The HSBC Road to Wimbledon National 14 & Under Challenge 2016 begins in the Spring in tennis clubs, schools and parks
all over the country and ends in August at The All England Club, Wimbledon. This is the Club event for 10/9/8/7 Rated
players only
THE EVENT is in four stages and is open to boys and girls of all standards.
Stage 1 – is run in the Club during April and May and is a Grade 5 event.
Stage 2 - all Club winners (and often the runners-up) are invited to the County Finals:
Stage 3 - County Finals - The boy and girl winners of your club / park will be invited to the county finals (09-10 July 2016)
Stage 4 – National Finals - The boy and girl winners of the county finals will be invited to compete on the grass at
Wimbledon between 08-13 August 2016.
ELIGIBILITY – A player must be 14 & under (born 1 Sept 2001 – 31 Aug 2005). A player must be rated 7.1 – 10.2 or have
no rating as of 1 April 2016. All our Club Members are encouraged to enter but squad and team players are expected to
play. You may not represent more than one club or school in the competition so you must decide whether to play for the
Club or your school: you cannot play for both. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 8th April.
MATCH FORMAT - The Draw will be displayed in the Clubhouse on Friday 25th March. It will be seeded and, where
possible, staggered to allow players with higher ratings to come in at a later stage. A Consolation event will also be run so
all competitors are guaranteed two singles matches.
Play-by dates for the specific rounds must be adhered to. NO coin flips are allowed - if matches are not played then an
email chain must be provided to the Referee to help him decide who will go through to the next round.
If a match is not played and no proof provided, then neither player/ team will go through. Players are responsible for
looking at the draw sheet to find out who and when they are playing and have equal responsibility for contacting their
opponent to arrange the match. Upon completion, match scores must be written on the draw sheet ASAP.
SCORING –Two tie-break sets (to 7) followed, if necessary, by a deciding Match Tie-Break (first to 10 points/ 2 clear).
FINALS will be played on Friday 27th May (or before if agreed with the finalists).
