Dear Parents/Guardians
BURNS CELEBRATIONS
A big thank you to all the
boys and girls and staff of
St Cuthbert’s who made
our Burns Celebration so
enjoyable. The singing,
poetry and retelling of the
Three Little Pigs in the
Scots Language was
wonderful!!!
Congratulations to Brooke
Tweedie who won the
Kathleen Holmes award
for her recital of The
Auld Broon Troot!
Thanks to those
parents/carers who
attended.
February 2015

and other important
information. Your
thoughts are welcome.
Please remember we are
still in the early stages.
Please use www.highparkpri.glasgow.sch.uk
This will get you onto the
site.
SNOW FUN
We will continue to send
you any reminders via text
or posted on Facebook or
Twitter. We would
encourage you to keep this

BENVIEW WEBPAGE
As we move more and more
towards being an Eco
Friendly Campus. We now
have a new website up and
running. There is still

will be ongoing as will
updates to the site. You
will be able to access the
site online and click onto
need to be approved by
either myself or Miss
Ross.
There are some fantastic
pictures of the children
and the different types of
learning experiences e.g.
Burns Assembly, visit from
St. Roch’s Secondary, visit
to the Science Centre to
mention just a few.
ST CUTHBERT’S
FACEBOOK
We have a new closed
Facebook account which
will allow parents/carers
to view what is happening
in school and to keep up to
date with events.
This is a closed group and
anyone wishing to join will
Thank you for your
patience during the cold
spell. We aim as best we
can to keep your children
safe and for their learning
to continue.
There was an issue with
the access to the school
but this has been
rectified and once a phone
call was made the issue
was resolved immediately.
Can I also remind you that
the stairs at the Trim
Trail should not be used as
access to and from the
school. These steps
became extremely slippery
during the icy weather and
we do not want any
accidents.
Salt corrodes these steps
so the Janitorial staff will
block these off using
cones if they feel the
steps are too icy.
However, we would prefer
you to use other routes to
access the school.
SACRAMENTS
We now have dates for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation
for P3 pupils. Meeting for
parents will take place on
Tuesday 24th February at 7pm
in St Teresa’s Church and the
Sacrament of Reconciliation
will take place on Tuesday 3rd
March 7pm.
If you intend your child to
take part in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, please forward
a copy of the Baptismal
Certificate to the School
Office as soon as possible. If
your child has not been
baptised and you wish to do so
please contact Father Hendry
to make arrangements.
First Communion will take
place on Saturday 16th May at
10am.
We are hoping to take our P4s
on a retreat to Schoenstatt
either before or after they
have made their First Holy
Communion. Details will follow.
FAMILY FUN/FUND
RAISING
We are hoping to hold Family
activities as part of our fund
raising activities.
Suggestions have been:
Family Movie with popcorn
Family Quiz
Family Board Games
Further suggestions welcome.
Post them on either the
Facebook page or let us know
when you see us in the
playground.
First date will be Monday 16th
February 3.15-4.15. Activity
to be decided. We will let you
know as soon as we can.
With Lent fast approaching we
are going to hold a fund
raising pancake sale. We
would appreciate donations of
pancakes, the staff will also
donate pancakes and toppings.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
REWARD
be for the boys and girls who
have earned the treat by
following the school rules and
displaying positive behaviour.
SUNSHINE ROOM
Mrs Jollie would like to
invite Parents/carers to
visit the Sunshine Room on
a Monday between 1pm and
2pm. Pop in for
tea/coffee and a chat.
Perhaps some arts and
crafts or baking or to
have a chat about the kind
of games you could play
with your child.
Suggestions for these
Monday get togethers are
more than welcome.
ATTENDANCE
In order to promote positive
behaviour, we have been giving
out tokens to pupils and
classes who have been
demonstrating positive
behaviour skills such as lining
up, working quietly etc.
These tokens are
exchanged for different
coloured balls which reflect
different points. A gold ball is
given to the class who
demonstrates good skills
either on an excursion or when
we have a visitor in school.
Every month a winner will be
announced and a reward given
to the class.
The winners for January were
Primary 2. Well done!! They
will be visiting Jurassic Jungle
on the morning of Thursday
12th February.
I am looking into taking some
of the older children to
Frankie and Bennys for a Pizza
Making event! Yum! This will
Can I continue to remind
you to contact the school
if your child is going to be
absent due to ill health or
any other reason? It is
vital that pupils attend
school for the maximum
days available and that
late coming is kept to a
minimum – a lot of learning
takes place between 9 and
9.30 and it is essential
that pupils get into the
habit of being on time.
SMOKING/DOGS
Just a reminder to all that
smoking is not allowed
within the school grounds.
Dogs, even on a lead or
carried are also not
permitted within the
school grounds. It has
been brought to my notice
that there has been dog
droppings on the hill up to
the school. I have asked
the Eco Committee to
write to the Council asking
for bins to be placed at
the bottom of the hill on
Bilsland Drive. This is for
the health and well-being
of your children.
PARKING
Another reminder that
parents/carers should
NOT be parking within the
school. The drop off zone
is for the use of taxis and
children who require to be
dropped off at the school
entrance.
Please be considerate and
park further down the hill.
It may be a slight
inconvenience but once
again this is for the safety
of your children.
The park should under no
circumstances be used to
park and drop off pupils.
This is not a public road
and is only for the use of
the Park Rangers and
Glasgow Council Vans.
This access is used by
people and children on
foot and their safety
MUST be a priority.
instructions, creative play.
The boys and girls made
snowballs with the lovely
soft snow, snowmen, igloos
and even a snow horse!!
Then we had hot chocolate
and marshmallows! Have a
look at our Facebook page
for the photographs. At
St. Cuthbert’s we try to
create fun filled learning
experiences whenever
possible. A follow up in
class was art work and
writing about their
experiences.
