Our fun, interactive Wee Play classes have been designed especially for families with children aged 2 – 5 to become more active together. Taking part in the classes not only helps wee ones to get active, it also develops their balance, coordination and movement skills through fun games and activities. Wee Play is designed especially for families with children aged 2 – 5 to become more active together and for children to learn new fundamental movement skills. Sessions are designed to encourage parental/carer involvement through a range of fun games and activities. Families are also encouraged to play at home using Wee Play take-home packs. Within the programme there are two main roles; Assistant; staff member interested in assisting Wee Play sessions Leader; staff member with experience in working with early years groups What would I have to do? Leader Assistant Prepare for sessions following programme session structure provided Help set up and pack away equipment Lead in the delivery of 45 minute long sessions Meet and greet participants at the start of session Ensure all relevant information reaches Good Move Development Officer Assist Leader in the delivery Motivate participants and create a positive, confidence building atmosphere Take weekly registers and assist participants in the completion of registration/ evaluation forms What are the benefits? All the roles have different responsibilities, staff wishing to take on any role must attend the following training. Introduction and Health Awareness - 2 hours Information about Wee Play and its target audience as well as awareness of health topics surrounding physical activity. Wee Play Delivery & Session Content - 4 hours Structure of Wee Play Activity sessions and the fundamental movement skills involved in each, as well as awareness of opportunities to improve both the parents’ and child’s confidence. Safe Guarding and Protecting Children - 2 hours (optional) Awareness of Glasgow Life’s current Child Protection Policy, the signs of abuse and reporting methods. Only staff who have not completed any form of Child Protection training will be required to complete this part of the training package. How do I get involved? Anyone interested in becoming a Wee Play coach should contact their Cultural Services Officer to discuss the feasibility for their group. Staff can then register an expression of interest with Paul McLean, Development Officer for the programme. For a limited time only, there will be funded places available to cover the cost of the Wee Play Coach Training. Members of staff must have a vested interest within early years and/or play to qualify for these places.
