Subject: Junior Freeride
You will be informed shortly afterward whether or not you are successful in
securing a place. There are just 40 entries total with categories for male and
female, skiers and snowboarders 12-17 years old. Riders will be chosen on a
first come, first served basis.
Once your place has been secured, you will receive another email no later
Thursday, March 5th 2015 confirming that the event will go ahead. Your card
will not be charged until the event has taken place and in the event of
cancellation your card will not be charged.
If you are unsuccessful in securing a place we can add you to a waiting list. If
a spot opens up you will be notified via email. Riders on the waiting list will be
chosen on a first come, first served basis.
It is extremely important that you are able to meet the pre-requisites set out in
the registration form. Please do not apply if these cannot be met.
The event focuses on skiing off-piste terrain. This terrain remains within the
ski area boundry and will be controlled by the ski patrol.
Scottish weather is well known for being unpredictable. Learning to
understand the weather and work with it is an essential skill for any Freerider.
We have a wealth of experience within the coaching staff and will look to
dryland activities as a back up if need be. Please leave this decision to us and
ski patrol on the day.
In the event you should wish to cancel and in order to give the space to
another rider, you must notify Glencoe Mountain no later than Wednesday
March 4th at 12pm. Failure to do so may mean that your card is still charged.
WHEN: We shall meet in the café situated in the car park at Glencoe
Mountain Resort. Riders are expected to arrive at 8am with daily briefing
beginning at 8:30am on both days.
Lift passes are not included in the price. They will be easily available on the
day if required. Glencoe Mountain are offering a discounted price for riders
participating in the event.
If you are not affiliated with a snowsports club then we recommend having 3rd
party insurance. More details can be found here:
http://www.snowsportscotland.org/policies
All of our coaches are qualified through BASI and have experience at
competition level within a range of snowsport disciplines. All qualifications are
current and group size will be a maximum of 8.
Coaches note:
“Freeriding and backcountry skiing is a uniquely rewarding
experience and cannot be achieved through one technique or
learnt in a day. It is dictated by snow, terrain and weather. It
demands an all rounder who can adapt on a turn by turn basis.
The Scottish Junior Freeride event is a fantastic opportunity for
young skiers and boarders to have a better understanding of the
fundamentals and learn to progress in a safe manner. Riders can
test their skills against others in the expression sessions but
most importantly, they will receive essential feedback on how to
continue developing the necessary skills. Respecting the
mountain and yourself, working with the conditions and having an
appropriate level of fitness, are equally as important as choosing
a line, maintaining control and getting airborne. We encourage
riders to look at the big picture, skiing to their strengths and
managing risk vs reward sensibly.”
Aaron McLean, Head coach.
