Critical Thinking Skills
 Demonstrate ability to distinguish between macro- and microeconomic issues.
 Identify and apply economizing problems issues in real-life through
cost-benefit analysis.
 Demonstrate ability to collect data and construct and estimate
economic models. For instance, forecasting economic trends using
econometric models.
 Observe and analyze real data; formulate explanations of cause
and effect relationship (hypothesis) based upon facts; accept,
reject, or modify hypothesis; understand the difference between
inductive and deductive reasoning, positive and normative
economics.

Direct Measure(s):
 Students (seniors) are expected to complete research
paper and essay exams graded on content and style in
the following capstone courses: ECP 4703: Managerial
Economics, ECO 4223: Money and Banking, ECO 4401:
Mathematical Economics, ECO 4704: International
Trade, ECO 4253: Monetary and Fiscal Policy, and ECP
4403: Economics of Industrial Organization. Seventyfive percent (75%) of students taking these courses will
pass with a grade of “C” or better.
 Rubrics: Design course projects for the students. More
than ninety percent (90%) of seniors taking the above
courses will satisfactorily complete (“C” or better) their
projects.
Direct Measure(s)
 Students will be administered in-class exams
that will be essay and multiple choice type in
the courses listed in Step 2.
Indirect Measure(s):
 In an exit survey, more than seventy-five percent (75%)
of graduating seniors will rank the instruction in the
above capstone courses favorable by responding to the
following survey question: “Please rank the level of
satisfaction with the instruction in ECP 4403; ECP 4703;
ECO 4704; ECO 4401; ECO 4223; and ECO 4253.”
 More than eighty percent (80%) of seniors who
complete these projects will rate them satisfactory by
responding to the following survey question: “Please
rate the level of satisfaction with the knowledge gained
through instruction in writing research projects in the
capstone courses --- ECP 4703; ECO 4253; ECO 4223;
ECO 4704; ECO 4401; and ECP 4403.”
Indirect Measure(s)
 Faculty teaching these courses will rate
students’ performance in the above courses
as fair, good, very good, or superior.
Intended Program Outcomes
Content Knowledge:
 Analyze the concepts of scarcity, choice, and opportunity cost;
distinguish between classical and Keynesian employment theories;
and distinguish between the concepts of demand and supply
related to product, resource, and money markets.
 Demonstrate the ability to write a clear and concise essay on
economic issues that develops a consistent argument and evidence
to support interpretation of economic situations.

 Test students in essay and multiple choice exam.
Seventy-five percent (75%) of students taking Principles
of Economics I and II will pass with grade of “C” or

 Test senior students’ knowledge in capstone courses
such as ECO 3421: Econometrics and ECO 4401:
Mathematical Economics. Students’ passing rate ("C"
or better) in these courses is expected to be seventyfive percent (75%) or higher.

 About seventy-five percent (75%) of Economics
graduating seniors will rank Principles of Economics I
and II favorable in exit survey: “How did ECO 2013 and
ECO 2023 provide a foundation for your success in
upper-level economics courses?”
 In exit survey, seventy-five percent (75%) of the
graduating seniors will rank instruction in Econometrics
and Mathematical Economics favorable by responding
to the following question: “Please rate the level of
satisfaction with the instruction in ECO 3421 and ECO
4401.
Professional Development:
 Summarize internship experience by preparing Internship Report
that focuses on role and experience gained from various internship
set-ups.
 Summarize projects done in ECO 3921: Professional Development
by writing reports that show the knowledge, skills, and experience
gained in the course.
Direct Measure(s):
 More than ninety percent (90%) of interns will
successfully complete (earn grade “C” or better) their
Internship and Internship Reports at the end of the
internship.
 Ninety percent (90%) of graduates will earn grade “B” or
better in ECO 3921: Professional Development.
Indirect Measure(s):
 More than ninety percent (90%) of the interns will
receive satisfactory (or higher) evaluation by their
supervisors.
 More than eighty percent (80%) of the interns will rank
their internship experience satisfactory in exit survey.
 Exit survey will indicate that more than eighty
percent (80%) of graduating students responded that
they were extremely satisfied with the knowledge gained
from ECO 3921: Professional Development by
responding to the following survey question: “Please
rate the level of satisfaction with the materials covered
in and knowledge gained by taking ECO 3921:

 Senior students in ECO 3421 and ECO 4401
will be assigned class projects.

 Students who took ECO 2013, ECO 2023,
ECO 3421, and ECO 4401 will rank instruction
and knowledge gained from these courses
satisfactory or unsatisfactory in an exit survey.
The faculty who teach ECO 3421 and ECO
4401 will rate students’ performance in the
class project satisfactory or unsatisfactory
based on criteria they developed for the
project.

 Success of students in internship will be
measured by their successful completion of
their internship and their Internship Report.
Ninety percent (90%) of the interns will
achieve the latter goals.
 For ECO 3921, students will be given in-class
exam(s) and outside-class (group) project(s).
Indirect Measure(s)
 Interns will be ranked satisfactory or
unsatisfactory by their immediate supervisor.
Interns will also be given a Post-internship Exit
Survey to rank the experience, knowledge,
and skills gained on the internship as
satisfactory or unsatisfactory.
 ECO 3921 students will be administered Exit
Survey of Graduating Seniors to rank the
experience and knowledge gained in taking
the course.

Communication Skill(s)
 Graduates will demonstrate proficiency in their ability to present an
oral and written presentation in the capstone courses, which include
ECP 4703: Managerial Economics, ECO 4713: International
Finance, ECO 4223: Money and Banking, and ECP 4403:
Economics of Industrial Organization.
 Research and execute a complex economic concept effectively
through written research reports.
Interdisciplinary Perspective:
 Demonstrate ability to Prepare Technical Research Reports that
focus on multidisciplinary areas. The research reports will be
expected to be of publishable standard.
 Summarize team-work experience gained during the internship
period.
 Understand the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and
issues in business environment.

 More than seventy-five percent (75%) of seniors will
earn passing grade (“C” or better) in their oral and
written presentations and projects in the capstone
courses (ECP 4703; ECO 4713; ECO 4401; ECP 4403;

courses will be evaluated by the instructor
based on their ability to do research, complete
and present the results of the assigned
projects in class.

in their evaluation of the interns’ written and oral
performance on the job.
 Students’ effectiveness will be measured by faculty
members rating presentations using the oral and written
communication skills.

prepared by faculty and Internship Supervisors,
respectively.

unsatisfactory based on the evaluation criteria
they developed.
 The internship supervisors will also rank
intern’s written and oral presentation as above
average or excellent based on some criteria
they developed.

 Exit survey will indicate that more than eighty percent
(80%) of graduating students responded that they were
extremely satisfied with interdisciplinary knowledge
gained from their internship experience by responding to
the following survey item: “Please rate your level of
satisfaction with your internship experience in terms of
interdisciplinary knowledge.”
Direct Measure(s)
 Students will be evaluated in the internship
and professional development, respectively,
by their supervisor and instructor based on
their ability to successfully prepare and
complete a Technical Research Report. This
evaluation will be based on some laid down
rubrics.
Indirect Measure(s)
 Students will be asked to rank their
experience, knowledge, and skills gained in
writing reports in ECO 4943 and ECO 3921 in
exit survey administered by the Department.
