Shell Twilight Basketball Assistant Coach
Location: Torry youth & Leisure Centre, Oscar Road, Aberdeen.
Time: Friday’s 6-8pm (Occasional additional work at tournaments and events)
Pay: £12 per hour
Programme Background
Shell Twilight Basketball is a FREE programme which provides young people across Scotland with an active alternative to
the streets at the times when they need it most. The weekly sessions are based in Scotland’s most deprived communities
and are open to all young people aged between 11 and 21. The Shell Twilight concept brings together basketball and
access to the information that young people need to assist their personal and social development with energetic sessions
delivered by qualified coaches and youth workers.
Role responsibilities

Assist lead coach in the running of the session
•
Assist with reporting on session and participants

Engage with participants and identify areas of development

Identify and develop referral routes to attract additional young people to the session
Person specification
Essential

Ability to coach basketball

Excellent interpersonal skills, experience of working directly with young people and community groups and
young people

Able to maintain accurate records in support of monitoring and evaluation

A passion for working with young people and supporting their development

Understanding of issues affecting young people

An open mind to new ways of working and creative approaches

Be prepared to undergo clearance from Disclosure Scotland/ PVG
Desirable

Basketball UKCC Level 1

Training in child protection, first aid and training specific to working with young people

Good working knowledge of monitoring and evaluation practise

Knowledge of the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities programme

Experience of delivering sports provision through CashBack for Communities
Training & support provided

Induction training

Basketball coaching qualifications and other relevant qualifications can be supported throughout

Ongoing support provided by Scottish Sports Futures
