Headteacher`s Newsletter No 31 24/4/15

Parental Survey
Issues in the last parental survey that had a significant negative response (respectively 15%,
13%, 13% and 16%) were as follows:

I get regular information about my child's progress.

The school has given me ideas and information about how I can help my child at home.

The school provides appropriate homework.

I am clear about the role of the governing body.
Currently, in order to ensure parents get regular information about their children’s progress, we
hold three open evenings, one in each term, we publish two reports, one interim and one end of
year, a curriculum meeting and we have an open door policy, that is, parents are free to make
appointments at any time of the year to discuss children’s progress and other issues.
We would therefore like to invite suggestions from concerned parents as to what further ways
we could reasonably adopt to keep you as informed as you would like to be. Please write in or
e-mail suggestions to the office and we will do what we can to improve in this area.
Similarly, please let us know as to what other kinds of information you might like to enable you
to help your children at home.
With regard to homework, we are considering holding a meeting in the near future to review
how we approach homework in the light of the most recent research.
I will address the role of the governing body in a future newsletter.
Fresh Approach
You may remember that this is the name of our outdoor initiative to increase children’s
activities outdoors. Developments to date include:

The Pergola, paid for mostly through National Lottery funding – children have already
enjoyed using it and it is ready to function as an outdoor classroom;

A new woodchip path has been laid down to the pergola to give all year round access;

A gardening area has started to be prepared and plans are in
motion to build raised beds for growing vegetables and flowers;

A number of parents and governors have volunteered to help
develop the gardening area and work with children on gardening;

We have had an offer of help to start and develop a bird watching club and we are
seeking help also from the R.S.P.B.;

The pond area has been surveyed and clearance has been arranged together with work to
make the pond usable for pond dipping;

Mrs Hall and Miss Davies are working on “reflection” areas and a “reflective” walk;

Large outdoor musical instruments, kindly paid for by PACE are in
school and will be installed in the near future;

We are looking into planting an apple orchard;

New outdoor shading has been ordered.
Mr Cave, one of our governors, has put in a lot of time and effort to help us progress the project
and I am also grateful to staff, other governors and parents who have offered their time and
expertise. We are turning our outdoor areas into a very valuable long term asset that will
benefit children at the school for years to come.
Inter-School Sport
On Thursday, we entered a team in the girls Summer Sevens Football Competition. We had to
play against Danson Primary whose team have been playing throughout the season, whilst this
was Eastcote’s first game.
Despite playing excellently, the girls lost 1 – 0, a goal coming as a result of a goal-mouth melee!
We had opportunities to score but Danson’s goalkeeper made good saves – but not as good as
those made by Connie C. in the Eastcote goal.
Well done to everyone involved and thank you to all parents for transport and for supporting the
team so well (and thank you to Mrs. Anderson for the photo).
The team were: Eleanor (captain), Connie B, Amy, Kia, Lilly, Carla, Eliz, Connie C, Phoebe and
Millie.
We have also entered a football tournament for years 5 and 4 in May and will be preparing for
this soon.
The cricket season having started, we have entered two borough competitions, one for girls and
the other for mixed teams.
House Events
This term the inter-house events will include:

Rounders

Athletics

Spelling
We may also be able to fit in:

A quiz

Cricket

Year 3/4 football
Living Eggs
You will have undoubtedly heard about the excitement in school this
week! We have all had the pleasure of seeing four chicks so far, hatch
out from the 10 eggs that have been incubating since Monday. This
has been an amazing experience for all the children – and the staff and cracks are appearing in more eggs as we speak! We are really
enjoying having them in school with us and unless someone would like
to keep them, they will be collected next Friday to be rehomed by Living Eggs.
