She was probably hit by a ship - notice the pink areas are where her injuries occurred and which were reconstructed. Her skeleton is 14m long and weighs 1,5 tons. Renowned taxidermist Piet Pretorius undertook the process to remove the bones from the carcass and clean them which takes many years.
