Magnificent Megara




Megara is coastal.
Its in the northern part of the
Isthmus of Corinth.


Megara is very mountainous.

Summers in Megara were very hot and dry, and Winters
were cold and rainy.

Megarians used irrigation to help farm their unfertile land.

Some food that was common in Megara is: Olives, Grapes,
Figs, Olive Oil, Fish, Wine, and Grape Juice.

They also raised some goats too so that they also had milk
and cheese.

Megara had a Democracy

That meant that the citizens had a lot of personal freedom.
Megarians had
many similarities
to Corinth
because they took
many of Corinth’s
ideas.





Megarians had a very similar religion to other Greek city
states.
Megarians believed in the same gods as all the other
Greeks.
Megarians believed in 12 main Gods and Goddesses
The God that Megara mainly worshipped is Zeus King of the
Gods
In addition to Zeus they also worshipped Hades, Hermes,
and Posideon
Symbols such as the lightening bolt
showed that Zeus was the king of the Sky



Megarians had an acropolis that mountain that rises above
their Agora
They had temples that people said were gorgeous
There are walls around Megara that were made in ancient
time that are still there today.

Greeks.

invented by Greeks.

Jobs mostly Involved trading.

Megarians has their own currency

There also were farmers.

Not much is known about their social structure.

There isn’t much of a record on Meagarian arts, but there
were many textiles and forms


Just like all of the city states Merarians spoke Greek.

Megarans wrote in Greek too.

Euclid of Megara was a philosapher.

Megara copied many things from Corinth so not much was
invented there.

Megara had its own coins which is an example of an idea
taken from Corinth

Megara was pretty well known for its wool, horses, livestock,
and coins.

Megara was a big trade route so it was good for trading.

Megara was very well known for its various textiles.

