March 22, 2017 Women Earn First Win at NCU The women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season in the conference opener at North Central on Saturday by the final score of 8-1. The Knights won two of three in doubles play to open the match, and then swept all six singles matches to finish the win. Anna Hemmelman (Luther), Rachel Riediger (Luther), Morgan Shevey (LPS), and Molly Paggi (Luther) each finished with wins in both doubles and singles. Ella Loersch (Luther) and Anastasia Bornschlegl (SCLHS) both recorded a singles win, with Loersch overcoming an early deficit to win her match in three sets. Riediger serves it over Softball Sweeps Plymouth Dome Tourney The softball team gained early season momentum by winning all five games in two days at the Plymouth Dome on Thursday and Friday. The Knights won both games against Maranatha on Thursday by the scores of 6-3 and 13-6, and then swept a triple header against Finlandia, North Central, and Maranatha on Friday to complete the two-day tournament. Pitching led the way for the Knights as newcomers Rebecca Pruss (WLA) and Morgan Palubicki (Winona MN) each recorded a pair of wins, while senior Kelli Doell (FVL) won the final game. Audrey Timm (Luther) and Aimee Ashman (FVL) led the Knights at the plate. Doell fires it home Timm Named Player of the Week Sophomore outfielder Audrey Timm (Luther) was named UMAC Player of the Week in softball after helping MLC to a 5-0 record last week. St. Mary’s Timm led the Knights with a .533 batting average thanks to eight total hits, four doubles, and one triple. She also tied for the team lead with seven runs scored to go with four runs batted in.
