Did you know that people who fundraise online raise 200% more on average than those who do not? Additionally, the
average online donation is 40% higher than a check or cash donation. Sending emails is easy to do right from your personal
headquarters! If you don’t want to create your own email, you can use one of the template messages already created.
Want to recruit, motivate, and inform your team but can’t put it into words? Here are some quick e-mails to send to
your team to help motivate, thank and grow your team.

E-mail to Motivate/Update Walkers on your Team:
Event Day is almost here, but there’s still time to raise funds and awareness, and bring hope to all who live with the
challenges of autism. Autism affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys.
E-mail about Summit:
For more than 40 years, The Summit Center has given hope to Western New York families affected by autism and
developmental, social, and behavioral challenges. Summit is considered a Center of Excellence, serving children and young
adults through Early Intervention & Education, Behavioral Health, Community & Family Support, and Adult programs and

Team Tips
1. Set a fundraising GOAL and team member recruitment GOAL for your team.
2. Make sure all team members have registered ONLINE before Event day so they can make the most of the
fundraising process.
3. Visit the Fundraising Tips page at www.summitwalk.org to get ideas and motivation!
4. Make it a point to involve your company/employer and those who help your family member affected by
autism! Did you email your co-workers to join the team? Did you involve your boss to rally your company?
Does your company have a matching gifts program?
5. Stress the importance of fundraising throughout the pre-Event period. Every donation, large and small
helps a child.
6. Highlight your team progress through regular newsletters, email alerts, or in memos to employees and
managers. Add your Team Page link to your email signature.
7. Create your own Team T-Shirt or button, Team Banner or Team Sign for Event day!
8. Call or email the Development Department with questions about the Event and the team-building/
participant recruitment/fundraising process if you have questions or need support. You can reach the
Development staff via email at [email protected] or phone at 716.629.3423.
Raising Awareness in your Community:
There are many ways team captains and participants can help publicize the Event in the local community. Here
are 6 ways you can help spread the word about The Summit Center Autism Walk ! If you need additional
information or materials, please contact the Development Office.
1. Become a neighborhood leader! Ask the Development Office for a supply of posters and brochures to
distribute to businesses around your community.
2. Take a team photo and write a short article for your local paper! Community papers love stories about
their local residents, especially when community events are highlighted. If you need ideas or sample
stories, please contact the Development Office.
3. Ask local groups to support you! Ask for time at your local Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club,
Lions Club or other service organization to talk about why you are participating in The Summit Center
Autism Walk and how they can get involved.
4. Ask your company or employer to sponsor the Event, your team, or form their own team. Send an email
to all the employees to share your story and enlist other participants. If your company would like to
hold a “Lunch and Learn” about autism or a Dress Down Day, please contact the Development Office for
support.
5. Host a fundraiser to raise money for your team and awareness in your community. Please download and
read the Summiteer Guidelines, Application, and No Solicitation List.
Team T-Shirts
All participants that meet the minimum amount $100 by May 31, 2017 will receive a 2017 t-shirt, printed with
event corporate sponsor names and logos on the back. Many teams still like to design their own t-shirts, in
matching colors with clever names to wear on Event Day. Team T-shirts help build enthusiasm during the weeks
leading up to the event, and unite a team on the day of the Event.
Here are some tips on creating a team t-shirt:
1. Be creative! The more unique your shirt, the
more your team will wear it year-round.
2. Stand out! The best shirts are bright and colorful.
3. Tell your story! Include the name or photo of the
person/child for whom your team is participating
in your design.
4. Be positive! Your design is a reflection of how you feel
about your child.
R e c r u i t in g T i p s :
• Send “Save the Date” postcards to all the teachers, providers and doctors your child or grandchild sees!
• Put Event posters up at the local grocery store, gas station, gym, doctor’s office, lunch room, conference
room, teachers lounge, park, community center, etc!
• “Like” The Summit Center on Facebook (www.facebook.com/thesummitcenter.org) and recruit ALL your
friends to like us too!

• Ask your company to set up a “Lunch & Learn” in the cafeteria to recruit employees for the Event.
• Visit local shops and businesses and give the manager posters or brochures to hang. Ask them to create a
company team. They can wear their company shirts on Event Day and promote their charitable giving.
• Are you a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, Junior League, or any other service organization
that needs community service hours? If so, recruit your fellow members to come out and start a team or
volunteer on Event Day.
• Enlist the help of your church, synagogue, etc.; ask them to add an announcement in the weekly bulletin or
newsletter about the Event and how they can support Summit.
• Ask your local pizza delivery person if they will add “pizza box toppers‟ with Event information.
• Ask the local library if you can put out posters, brochures, postcards, etc.
• Ask the PTA if you can address the attendees at the next meeting.
• Ask your child’s school Guidance Couselor if there is a student organization that would support the Event.
Social Networking:
Reaching out and asking for donations is easier than ever before with the growing popularity of social networking
sites! Who follows you on Twitter? Who are your Facebook friends? Who are you “LinkedIn” with? Are they
supporting your efforts yet? By sending messages through these networks, you will raise awareness and money.
Let friends and family know you are participating in The Summit Center Autism Walk by “liking” The Summit
Center on Facebook. Encourage your donors to share the page with people in their networks. You will be surprised
by how many friends will help you spread the word!
Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding fundraising and the Autism Walk.
