WELCOME to DISCRETE! I hope this semester will be exciting and enjoyable for us. I
encourage each student to demonstrate active participation in all forms of learning. It is
my desire to create a lifelong love for knowledge in each of my students.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
1) Always come to class prepared (paper, pencils, textbook, notebook,
homework, etc).
2) Always respect other students, the teacher, and their property.
3) Always use appropriate language to students and the teacher.
4) You are to be in your seat working on bellwork, ready for class, when
the bell rings.
CLASSROOM CONSEQUENCES:
1) Warning
2) Minutes After Class/School
3) In School Suspension
4) Office Visit
I have a “0 tolerance” policy for
any disrespectful or disruptive
behavior. An infraction of this
sort will result in an automatic
office visit without notice or
warning.
PROCEDURES:
1) Each student is expected to abide by all North Lincoln High school rules and regulations.
2) Cell phones will not be tolerated unless it is deemed an appropriate time to be incorporated with
instruction.
3) Classwork/Homework is a vital part of any math class. This is the student’s opportunity to practice what
he/she has learned in class. Classwork/Homework is graded upon completion.
4) Assessments are always announced. Assessments generally always contain review items. Students have
the opportunity to drop the lowest assessment grade at each nine-week grading period if the following
is met: All work is completed on-time, including missed work within the given make-up period of 3
days, and there are no zero’s or missing assignments for the given grading period.
5) If a student is absent for any reason – excused or unexcused – on the day of his/her return, he/she must
check with MRS QUEEN or a fellow student to find out what was missed during the absence. If an
assessment is missed it is his/her responsibility to schedule a make up day with me. According to
school policy all make-up work should be completed within three school days after returning to school
to receive a grade. If a student fails to make-up any missing assignments, he/she will receive a ZERO.
6) I have a “0 tolerance” policy for cheating. An automatic 0 will be given for copying on any assessment or
homework… no questions asked!
7) A progress report will be sent home after 4.5 weeks, the half-way point of the grading period. Please be
aware that each nine-week period represents one-half the course. Thus, keeping up with your
progress will be essential for success.
8) I can be reached at [email protected] or 704-736-1017 x 61612
YOUR SUCCESS IN MATHEMATICS IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL

TUTORING: Need Help?
I am here two out of five days before or after school during the week. Tuesday after
school will be my permanent tutoring day during the week. These tutorial periods are
designed to offer each student the opportunity to receive extra, one-on-one help with
his/her studies. They will also be used to make up appropriate missed assignments,
quizzes, or tests if a student is absent for any reason. The days for tutoring will be listed
on the board in my classroom.
TARDY:
You are considered tardy if the bell begins ringing and you are not across the line from
my door to the hall. The tardy consequences of NLHS will be adhered to.
BATHROOM/WATER BREAKS:
You are expected to take bathroom and water breaks during your class
changes. You may use the restroom during warm-ups, individual work and/or
group work. However, unless it is an emergency students will not be
permitted to use the restroom during a quiz, test, or during my instructional
time.
CALCULATORS:
Most of the course can be completed with a scientific calculator.
However, the TI-83 Plus calculator will be used during part of the
semester. We have a limited amount of calculators that may be
assigned to a specific student for use during their assigned class
period. Students must understand that they are responsible for the
calculator while it is in the student’s possession. If a student
uses a school calculator and damage occurs, a replacement fee will
be charged. The calculators are supplied for educational purposes
only. Students will lose their calculator privileges for playing
games or relaying messages to other students on the calculators.
