2017 Camp Descriptions
Actors in the Round. Designed for your budding thespian, this youth actor's camp teaches introductory acting
methods for the screen and stage. Students learn theater history, improvisational games, concentration and sensory
awareness, vocal and movement techniques all while enhancing their imaginations. For our field trip, we will be going
to the CSZ Improv Show for a first-hand look at life on the big stage.
Dirt Detectives. An exploration into the world underground, our young archeologists will explore the rich history of
the Pacific NW and how native peoples settled and thrived on these lands hundreds of years before us. Our dirt
detectives will learn about fossils, bones and artifacts found in the Seattle area that date back to the Ice-age. We will
be visiting everyone's favorite, The Burke Museum, for our field trip.
Into the Woods. This camp is all about the outdoors. Students will be hiking in area park forests and will learn helpful
hiking safety tips, survival and first aid skills. Pack your hiking shoes, back packs, water bottles and energy bars and
get ready for adventures on the trail. All hikes will be "kid friendly," with a grand hike and summer picnic at Twin Falls.
National Dance Day. "Come dance with us." This year we are proud to announce our participation in the Dizzy Feet
Foundation's National Dance Day. Students joining these camps will learn this year's dance routine and then come
back together on Saturday, July 29th at Seattle Center to perform in unity with others from around the world. There's
a great big world of dance and movement and we will explore hip-hop, break dance, modern and Broadway!
Play Ball! This camp is for kids who love to run and play ball. Students of all athletic levels will have fun playing a
variety of field games outdoors. They will learn teamwork, sportsmanship, game rules, and ball movement techniques.
For our field trip, we're going to see a Mariners Game at Safeco Field!!
Mad Science. Professor P is back with more of his mad science antics and experiments. This week is all about fun,
hands-on, interactive science experiments, chemical reactions, engineering and robots. We're going CSI with forensic
science problem solving games. Our science focused field trip will be a trip to the Pacific Science Center.
Return to Hogwarts. Magic, Muggles and Mastery of Year 2. This Harry Potter themed camp will once again be filled
with spell-bounding magic. Campers will be sorted into Houses and compete for House Cups. We'll conjure our own
fantastic beasts, make spell journals and head out on quests wearing our themed costumes and props. An in-house
field trip with George A. Magician will be a hit. It's time again for Summer School.
Seattle Soundscapes. In this themed music camp, we explore every day sounds and use them to tell stories. Students
will make instruments, learn about Seattle's rich history of rhythm and blues. Young musicians will create their own
musical masterpieces to perform in groups or solo on the ILS stage. Students will explore the sounds of guitar, ukulele,
piano and marimba as well as their vocal instrument. Our featured field trip will be to MoPOP (previously EMP).
Star Wars: Go Rogue. The galaxy seems close to home and this year we go rogue with the Rebels. Join new and old
friends for an epic week of galactic-sized adventures. Harnessing their inner force, students will learn teamwork and
collaboration through fun games and far out activities. We'll learn about space travel and solar transportation. We
will be visited by the Museum of Flight, featuring the "Flying Gizmo Show."
Waters of the Pacific NW. In this out-door themed camp, students will explore inside the tide pools and visit various
area beaches. They will learn the differences between fresh and salt water ecosystems as well as the delicate
waterways in between, basic navigation systems, various knot making, and the history of our lighthouses.
