French Election: Emmanuel Macron elected as President of France
Thirty-nine-year-old Emmanuel Macron has been elected as the president of France. He
has become the youngest President and occupant of the Élysée Palace

South Korea Election: Moon Jae-in elected as President.
Moon Jae-in has been declared winner in South Korea’s presidential election by that
country’s National Election Commission.

World’s highest railway bridge which will be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower is to
come up over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir in around two years from now.

The International Road federation (IRF) has named India to be the host of the 18th World
Road Meeting (WRM 2017). WRM 2017 will be held on November 13, 2017.

Goldman Environmental Prize has been conferred on Prafulla Samantra,the social
activist from Odisha. The prize is also called as the Green Nobel.
*The Goldman Environmental Prize is a prize awarded annually to grassroots
environmental activists, given by the Goldman Environmental Foundation headquartered
in San Francisco, California.
Hindi film ‘Newton’ has won the Jury Prize for Best Film at the Hong Kong International
Film Festival. Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathy & Anjali Patil have acted in the movie
which is directed by Amit Masurkar.





India’s first and longest ropeway is planned to be constructed by the Mumbai Port Trust
to link Mumbai with the famous Elephanta Island in the Arabian Sea. .

Union Cabinet has decided to ban the use of red beacon by VIPs from May 1 April 19,
2017. Only three categories have been exempted from the ban. These are the President,
the Vice-President and the Chief Justice of India.
India’s second tallest flag pole which is 303 feet high has been Inaugurated in Kolhapur.
The country’s tallest flag pole is located at the Indo-Pak Attari Border and is 360 feet
high.
Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura have been chosen for Krishi Karman
Awards, 2015-16 for their record performance in the production of food grains during
2015-16
Veteran filmmaker and actor Kasinadhuni Viswanath has been conferred Dadasaheb
Phalke award for 2016 by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.






From May 4, Bhilar, a small village in Satara district of Maharashtra is all set to become
India’s first ‘book village’. Under this initiative, tourists and locals can come and read
books, magazines, newspapers stacked at 25 artistically decorated locations around the
village.

Scientists have found second Great Spot in Jupiter on April 15, 2017 .Unlike the Great
Red Spot which was identified in 1830, this newly discovered Great Spot is continuously
changing its shape and size.
NASA has named a newly discovered bacteria as Solibacillus kalamii to honour the late
president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.


IIT Kharagpur plans to introduce Vastu Shashtra to the architecture students from this
year August.
