Coaching Staff:
Neil Lerner
Hopkins High School Head Coach
Coach Lerner is starting his fifth season as the
Hopkins Royals head coach. During his years as
coach the Royals have won 3 conference
championships and in 2009 they won the Section
6AAA championship. He is a former All-American
player at St. Olaf College (1994-1998) and played
his high school baseball at Hopkins. Lerner has led
numerous player and coaches clinics over the last 12
years as an instructor at Lunch McKenzie’s
Baseball USA. Coach Lerner is currently a social
studies teacher at Hopkins West Junior High.
Pat Berger
Hopkins High School Pitching Coach
Coach Berger is starting his fifth season as the
Hopkins Royals Varsity pitching coach. During that
time he has been instrumental in leading the Royals
to conference and section championships. Berger
played at Minnetonka and then coached in their
program for 10 years. He became the first person
ever to coach and play in the Babe Ruth World
Series. During his 10 years, Berger’s teams won 4
Babe Ruth State Championships. Coach Berger is
currently a sixth grade teacher at Eisenhower
Elementary in the Hopkins School District.
Jeff Gagstetter
Hopkins High School Varsity Assistant
Coach Gagstetter is starting his fifth season as the
Hopkins Royals varsity assistant. Before coming to
Hopkins, Gagstetter spent nine years coaching in the
Eden Prairie Baseball Association. He spent six
years he has been the head coach of the Eden Prairie
Legion team, and during that time his teams won 3
state legion titles. In both 2004 and 2007 his legion
team won the Central Region and qualified for the
American Legion World Series. Gagstetter is
currently a physical education teacher at Wayzata
High School.

WHAT TO BRING
Campers need to bring baseball gear,
cleats, tennis shoes (in case of rain) water
bottle, glove, bat (if needed), and
protective gear.
In addition, each athlete should bring a
positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a desire
to have fun while being focused on
improving as a baseball player!

Incoming 6th –10th Grade
Pitching and Throwing Camp
WHAT: This camp is designed to meet the
needs of pitchers and position players at ALL
levels of experience. No prior pitching
experience is required, as players will learn the
fundamentals of proper pitching and throwing
technique. All participants will receive a camp
T-Shirt.
WHEN: June 8-10, 2010 8:30am-11:30am
WHERE: Hopkins High School Baseball Field
Purpose: The purpose & goal of this baseball
camp is to provide quality instruction that will
help pitchers and position players develop
proper throwing mechanics.
Pitchers will focus on pitching grips, proper
pitching mechanics, drills to improve delivery,
pick-offs, pitch selection, as well as daily
throwing routine.
Position Players will focus on throwing
technique, arm strength, and fielding
mechanics.
COST: $75.00/athlete

Rookie Camp
WHAT: This camp is designed to meet the
needs of young baseball players at ALL levels
of experience.
WHEN: June 14-17, 2010 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Incoming 6th –10th Grade
Hitting & Offensive Skills Camp
WHAT: This camp is designed for those who
want to develop their hitting, bunting and baserunning skills at ALL levels. Players will be
grouped according to age and ability level. All
participants will receive a camp T-Shirt.
WHEN: June 8-10, 2010 Noon- 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Hopkins High School Baseball Field
Purpose: The purpose & goal of this baseball
camp is to provide quality instruction that will
help each player improve their offensive
baseball skills.
The Camp will focus on hitters’ stance,
balance, and the mechanics of their swing.
Hitters will learn drills that they can use on
their own. Players will also learn proper
techniques used when bunting and running the
bases.

Junior Camp
WHAT: This camp is designed to help up &
coming players prepare for high school
baseball.
WHEN: June 14-17, 2010 Noon- 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Hopkins High School Baseball Field
Purpose: The purpose & goal of this baseball
camp is to provide quality instruction that will
help each player improve their basic baseball
skills. Hitting, throwing, fielding, and base
running will all be addressed during the course
of this camp. If you want your young player to
learn the right way to play baseball in a funfilled environment, then this is the camp you
are looking for. All participants will receive a
camp T-Shirt.
Purpose: The purpose of this camp is to
provide instruction that will help players
improve on their individual skills. Hitting,
throwing, fielding, base running, and pitching
will be addressed during the course of this
camp. There will also be an emphasis placed
on team play & offensive/ defensive strategies.
If you want to prepare for high school baseball
in a fun filled environment than this is the
camp for you! All participants will receive a
camp T-Shirt.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ACADEMY
For Incoming 9th-12th Graders
What: This camp is designed for players who are
interested in playing high school baseball in 2011.
Participants in the camp will experience typical
Hopkins High School practices, led by the Hopkins
High School baseball coaching staff. This will be
an intense camp setting, designed for those who are
serious about improving their baseball skills and
playing high school baseball.
WHEN: July 12-15, 2010 9:00am-Noon
WHERE: Hopkins High School Baseball Field
Purpose: The purpose of this camp is to give
players a head start on the 2011 season. Players
will acquaint themselves with the High School
coaching staff and practice setting, while working
hard to improve their skills.
The Camp will focus on skills, mechanics and
techniques in the areas of fielding, pitching, team
defense, baserunning and overall offensive play.
Players will be given an evaluation at the end of
the camp that includes suggestions on areas to
work on during the off-season. All players will
receive a camp T-Shirt.
COST: $100.00/athlete
Catching Camp
For Incoming 6th-12th Graders
WHAT: The catcher is involved in every play of
the game, but we often don’t spend enough time
developing catching skills This camp is designed
to teach catching skills to players at ALL levels.
Players will be grouped by age and experience. No
catching experience required. Players will learn
proper technique in the areas of blocking,
throwing, framing, calling a game, etc. Players are
encouraged to bring catching gear.
