New Academic Contract Faculty Start Date Becky Lane, Human Resources Sarah Covert, Office of Faculty Affairs 2 Benefits Change for NEW Hires • For hires beginning on or after July 1, 2017 • Must enroll within 30 days of hire date, or wait until open enrollment • Benefits effective date = • Hire date, if employment begins on the first of the month; OR • First of the month following hire date, if employment does not begin on the first of the month 3 2017 Academic Year Faculty Contract Start Dates • New faculty on academic contract will start August 1 • Benefits will begin on hire date • For this year only, if already accepted offer with August 7 start: • Faculty Affairs will distribute template letter asking new hire to make a choice: • Move start to August 1; benefits to start August 1; OR • Keep August 7 start; benefits to start September 1 • No change in salary either way • Returning faculty, academic contracts will start August 7, 2017 4 2017 Academic Year Faculty Contract Start Dates • For this year only, if already accepted offer with August 7 start, 3 steps for the hiring unit: 1. Send template letter; faculty to return with chosen start date by June 30th 2. Submit a personnel listing chosen start date 3. Request a contract, preferably by July 14
