GRADES 7-9 Throw and Catch: Teacher Rubric Movement Skills: Object Control Assessment: Observers are looking for • whether the ball bounces in the target area • whether the student catches the ball • whether the student crosses the throwing line (3.5 m) on the floor when throwing or catching. TEACHER RUBRIC Grades 7–9 Throw and Catch EMERGING Student steps over the line to throw the ball, the ball bounces well short of the target area. (i.e., student is unable to demonstrate a well propelled throw). DEVELOPING Ball bounces in target area and student fumbles to catch or trap ball, or requires multiple steps to intercept the ball. A fumbled catch or sloppy catch is permissible. ACQUIRED Ball bounces in the target area but student must move (1 step or major trunk motion) to catch the ball with one or both hands. Student does not cross line to catch. ACCOMPLISHED Ball bounces in target area. The student catches the ball with one hand in a controlled manner without major body movement. No steps taken to catch ball. * Sidearm, underhand or overhand throwing is permissible. Passport for Life is a program of 1 GRADES 7-9 Throw and Catch: Assessment Recording Form The student will do this activity three times. The first trial will be for practice. The second and third trials will be assessed. Use the teacher rubric to determine the level the student achieves in each trial. On the recording form, record the trial results in each column and the better trial in the rating column.
