RESEARCH OFFICER - MARKET INTELLIGENCE
REPORTING TO: ADVISOR – MARKET INTELLIGENCE
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Advisor, Market Intelligence the Research Officer, Market Intelligence
will support in the research, compilation, and synthesis of data and information about
key issues and areas including for products, markets, and competitors both regionally
and globally. He or she will contribute to the market research process by systematically
supporting the collection of market intelligence, assist in the proactive monitoring of
market data, conducting robust analysis, facilitating the identification of opportunities,
and developing comprehensive and customized reports on the same.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct research and synthesize information relevant to the Agency’s overall
trade and market intelligence program, and including for any and all of its
research publications;

Provide support for the use of analytical tools and programs to research, analyse
and formulate data and information on the international trade environment
which includes but are not limited to the following:
o
Competitor, market, and product intelligence
o
Customer orientation and preferences
o
Identification and tracking of trade and export opportunities and trends –
e.g. niche markets, new competitor, product, and market trends, etc.
o
Providing early warning of policy, regulatory or others changes in the
international trade for sector and products of export interest to the region

Help coordinate and participate in interviews with public and private sector
stakeholders, business executives, and industry experts in search of necessary
data and information;

Provide support for the development and maintenance of new market
intelligence tools and outputs, including their dissemination to the agency’s
clients

Provide research and technical support for the maintenance of the Regional
Online Trade Information Portal; Exporter’s Helpdesk; and the Regional Business
Register

Provide excellent written and graphical summaries of key findings and when
necessary, perform in-depth data analysis for use in case studies and larger
research publications from the agency;
Provide project management and administrative support for the agency’s market
intelligence and research programs including the National and Regional Trade
Information Networks;


Respond to inbound research inquiries by the agency’s clients
CORE COMPETENCIES







Ability to locate and procure information on international trade and related
areas from original and secondary sources, both from within the region and
internationally;
Ability to conduct broad based as well as customized market research and
analysis, including from time to time, economic and policy analysis
Ability to distil large volumes of information including statistical databases and
narrative reports
Strong project management and time management skills and the ability to
deliver simultaneous projects
Knowledge and understanding of international trade policy issues, and of the
trade agreements relevant to CARIFORUM countries;
Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite) and have familiarity with SPSS
and other analytical software;
Fluent in English. Ability to also communicate in French, Spanish or Dutch,
desirable.

As required.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/ CREDENTIALS




A graduate degree in either International Economics, International Trade,
International Business, or Statistic
At least three (3) years’ experience preferably in research and market analysis
Prior experience in an advisory capacity to exporters and potential exporters of
all sizes;
CARIFORUM national.
