General Procedures
1. MATCH GUARANTEES: Each team is guaranteed 2 matches
a. Forfeits: A forfeit will be “played out”. This means that the team that showed up
will take the ball from the beginning and score the point. BE SURE NOT TO MISS!
The ball will stay in the opposing net until the end of the game OR until the
opposing team shows up and get the ball out of the net to begin play. This
means that a team can be late and still play; however, they will start behind one
goal. The forfeit will be official at the end of the game.
2. DURATION: The duration of each match depends on the division:
a.
b.
c.
d.
1st/2nd Grade - 1, 20 Minute Game With 3 Minute Half Time
3rd/4th Grade – 1, 30 Minute Game With 5 Minute Half Time
5th/6th Grade – 1, 35 Minute Game With 5 Minute Half Time
7th/8th Grade – 1, 40 Minute Game With 5 Minute Half Time
3. GAME SHEETS: The referee will hand game cards to the winning coach. It is the
responsibility of the winning coach to turn in the game sheet to the Main Office for
tabulation. We will not track down missing game sheets. If you do not turn it in the a
coin will be flipped by staff to determine the winner.
4. TEAM MAKEUP: Exact team make-up can be found on the previous page.
5. CHECK-IN: All teams must check in at Mike’s Fieldhouse prior to their first game. Only
the Team Coach will be allowed to check-in the Team for the Tournament. We will not
release any information to someone who is not the coach. Coaches will receive an
official, SIGNED copy of your roster to present at all games. If you do not have the
roster, you will not play.
6. REGISTRATION FEES, REFUNDS AND LATE FEES: Registration for the Tournament is
open through May 17th. The team registration fee is $100 and is due NO LATER than
May 19th at 5pm.
HOW THE BRACKET WORKS
1. Teams advance through the bracket based on WINS – LOSSES.
2. If a tie occurs in any division, both teams will immediately compete in a shoot-out skill
competition on their current field. Each team will select 5 players to participate and a
Goal Keeper (the Goal Keeper is permitted to be one of the 5 players selected to
participate in the competition). The team who scores the most out of 5 rounds wins the
game. If it is still tied, the teams will enter sudden death. Which ever team wins the first
round WINS. To win a round the team must be the only one who scores during that set.
For example, if Team A scores first, Team B gets a chance to shoot. If Team B misses,
Team A wins, but if Team B scores, they start a new round. If Team A misses and Team B
scores, Team B wins. Please report to the Main Office ASAP after the shootout as the
winner is likely to have another game very soon.
3. Once the bracket is posted, it is final. It is vital that both coaches check the game card
the referee completes to verify accuracy and the WINNING TEAM’s coach bring that
card to the office to be counted. ONCE IT IS POSTED, NO CHANGES.
4. Bracket play is double elimination.
SOCCER RULES AT THE SUNSET SHOWDOWN
1. Regular soccer rules will prevail with following EXCEPTIONS:
a. There is NO off-side law in the 1st/2nd Grade Division
b. Each half will be started with a drop ball at center of the field. The referee will
not wait for the teams to be ready. Once the horn blows the referee will drop
the ball no matter who is on the field. BE READY!
c. NO SLIDE TACKLING!!! We all want to go home in one piece. This will be cited as
a yellow card every time, unless it is fragrant, in which case it will be cited as a
red. A slide tackle, according to this tournament, is where a player slides one or
two feet on the ground in an attempt to get the ball AND alters the steps of an
opposing player. A player who slides to save a ball with no opponent is not
considered a slide tackle.
d. HEADING: There is no heading permitted in Grades 1-6. If a player intentionally
heads the ball, an INDIRECT FREE KICK will be awarded at the spot of the
infraction.
e. Substitutions: may occur on ANY dead ball with the approval of the Referee. All
subs must be waiting at the half-field mark BEFORE the ball is dead to be
substituted in the game. Violation of this rule shall result in a verbal warning to
the team and an indirect free kick from where the ball was when the match was
stopped to issue the warning. The second warning will result in a straight yellow
card to the player coming on the field.
f. Protests and Disputes: All decisions by referees may not be appealed. Clerical
errors can occur and may be brought up to the Fieldhouse Main Office. Disputed
scores will be verified by the official game sheet. The tournament committee will
determine and correct any errors that might occur.
g. Conduct and Discipline: Please keep in mind that the purpose of this
tournament is to have fun. We expect the behavior of all participants, coaches,
and spectators to respect each other and to the referees and other staff. If we
find that a behavior line has been crossed, we will ask you to leave.
Any player ejected from a match for a red card offense, will not be allowed to
participate in the remainder of the Tournament. The goal is to keep players safe
and we do not tolerate over aggressive behavior.
