In Almere Poort, the fourth city centre of Almere, a
special urban living environment is being made: the
Olympia Quarter. The area is situated adjacent to the
Hollandse bridge and is characterized by a large mix
of living, work and leisure. The forest and beach are
nearby, Amsterdam and Utrecht are within easy reach.
As author of the urban sub draft and coordinating
architect we have an important role in the development
of this area.

The urban plan for the Olympia Quarter has a very high
density. Living and working is strongly mixed and the
supply of apartments in relation to soil properties is
large. Such a starting concept involves a progressive
program.
The section we are creating is durable and flexible.
What is now an office can be a residential tower later
on, and vice versa. The plinth we use for various
functions: during lunch a cup of coffee at the corner
and doing some shopping afterwards in a shop next
door. A liveliness that joins the dynamic live / work
environment. We encourage the dynamics and use the
human scale.

We are creating an image that is characterized by a
contemporary urban architecture with large glass
surfaces, light materials and building blocks by which
different architectural fragments are divided vertically
by program.
The Olympia Quarter has urban living in lively streets,
but also living in tower residents with a rustic and
panoramic view over forest and water. These existing
contrasts we use as a plus, the contrasts are the
power of the design. That makes the difference.
