Curriculum Officer at the Sydney Catholic Education Office and in 1993 was appointed

of Senior Curriculum Officer in 2002, returning to Trinity in 2004 as a Master Teacher. In
May 2005, Stan fulfilled the role of BOS Inspector for PDHPE.
Outstanding leadership is exemplified by Stan in the PDHPE KLA. At Trinity he coached
high level Track and Field, Rugby Union and Volleyball (MIC). Whilst still employed at
Trinity, Stan regularly presented at AIS PDHPE conferences mentoring other Heads of
PDHPE, hosting visits and providing faculty observations. Stan’s leadership roles escalated
to embody the BOSTES Inspector of PDHPE for 10 years and the Senior Curriculum Officer
in PDHPE for 3 years. Stan is well respected across all teaching sectors within NSW and as
a leader at the National curriculum level.
Stan has extensively advocated the strength of the PDHPE curriculum and profession
overall, through his professional roles including the NSW representative at National forums
on curriculum development, as NSW representative liaising on the National Health and
Physical Education network and having developed countless Ministerial correspondence
and briefings. Stan has been a regular contributing presenter to professional associations
and tertiary sector conferences, focusing on the professional learning of colleagues,
providing current information and quality approaches to programming, assessment and
resource development to support teaching and learning. He led the development of
numerous BOSTES syllabus support materials in the PDHPE KLA for over 10 years and
was a key author of the Stage 6 text “Application and Inquiry in PDHPE”.
Stan has contributed extensively to the development of PDHPE BOS and school courses.
In 1994, Stan was an advisory group member to the Alcohol Education in Schools Project.
Further involvement and mentoring included an invitation by the BOS in 1996 to participate
in a pilot program for the selection and monitoring of work samples in PDHPE classes. In
1998, he was a member of the BOS Evaluation Project Team for the review of all Higher
School Certificate subjects, engaged in a cross-sectoral reference/writing team to develop
professional learning materials in PDHPE and was part of a writing workshop for the Stage
6 PDHPE syllabus in 1999. Stan led the review of the Stage 6 syllabus in PDHPE and
CAFS, and the introduction of Stage 4 and 5 courses such as PASS and Child Studies.
Overall, he led and managed the work of BOSTES PDHPE committees for syllabus projects
and examinations. As an experienced Senior Marker of PDHPE and as BOSTES Inspector,
Stan Browne
Stan quality assured the HSC examination development process and provided support to
committee members for both PDHPE and CAFS. He provided editorial roles in the
production of PDHPE examination reports and student advice for major media publications.
As a member of the PDHPE Teachers’ Association (PDHPE TA) for over 20 years, Stan
presented at numerous conferences and courses organised by regional representatives. He
ensured the PDHPE TA voice was strongly heard at BOS curriculum review/writing
activities and utilised his PDHPE Inspector position to make a strong contribution to access
and equity issues for young people. Stan’s management guided the introduction of
legislation, policy and procedure implementation to support alternative education pathways
for students unable to succeed in mainstream settings, the BOSTES Special Education
program leading to expansions in course availability to students with Special Education
needs and BOSTES course endorsement programs for school developed and university
developed courses. Thus, Stan has been effective in demonstrating the contribution that
PDHPE Educators make to the entire education sector, regardless of their subject area.
This in turn has been a valuable contribution in raising the profile of the profession. Stan
has always demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, exuding extraordinary global
knowledge and skill beyond the PDHPE subject area. He is a master teacher/facilitator who
continues to develop a genuine rapport with students and staff alike. Stan has been a
wonderful example and mentor to all those who have associated with him. The PDHPE TA
holds Stan in the highest esteem and thanks him for his contributions beyond the call of
duty.
Stan is a most worthy recipient of the
2014 PDHPETA
