GAME NOTES --- CLEAR LAKE vs. CHARLES CITY
Game: Clear Lake at Charles City, Comet Field, Friday, August 27th --- 7:30 PM kickoff
Records:.
 Clear Lake (insert rankings) finished the 2009 season with a record of 11-1 overall and finished 7-0 in Class
3A District 2 play. Clear Lake last year made the playoffs for the 12th consecutive time, finishing in the
quarterfinal round with a loss to Carroll. Clear Lake is one of nine schools that have made 12 or more straight
playoff appearances in the history of the playoffs, and are one of five teams that have a current streak of at
least 10 playoff appearances.

Charles City (not rated) finished 2009 with a record of 6-4 overall and finished 6-1 in Class 3A District 2,
behind Clear Lake. The Comets lost to Jefferson-Scranton/Paton-Churdan in the 3A substate round 20-17.
Series History: Clear Lake holds a three-game lead in the series of 33 games, winning 18 and losing 15. Clear
Lake is 8-7 at Lions Field and is 10-8 in Charles City.
Coaches:.
 Clear Lake head coach Fred Wieck is in his 23rd season as head coach at Clear Lake. Wieck is 172-58 at
Clear Lake (1988-present) and 229-84 overall (31st season). Wieck has taken teams to the playoffs thirteen
times, including twelve Clear Lake teams. He won the state championship with Clear Lake in 2000, and won
with Garwin GMG in 1987, being one of only three coaches in history to win state championships at two
different schools, joined by Ken Winkler at Treynor (1979) and West Marshall (1999), & Gary Swenson at
Spencer (1994) and West Des Moines Valley (2002). Wieck currently sits tied for 22nd place on the all-time
Iowa coaches wins list, and sits alone in the #13 spot among the active coaches on the wins list.

Charles City coach Steve Stallsmith is in his 19th year of coaching the Comets and has a record of 74-93.
Stallsmith has guided Charles City to four playoff appearances in 1996, 1997, 2003, and 2008, and a
substate appearance last year. .
