After having welcomed during the summer children for the architecture and
landscape laboratories and hosted workshops with students from the Chinese
Culture University in Taipei, from Columbia University in New York and the
Politecnico di Milano, i2a istituto internazionale di architettura of Vico Morcote
will inaugurate on Friday 4 October 2013 at 7pm a new installation, fruit of the
collaboration between two Zurich-based offices: that of the American landscape
architect Robin Winogrond and Schweingruber Zulauf. The evening will be
introduced by the architect Paolo Fumagalli. An intervention by professor of
dendrochronology Fritz Schweingruber will follow.

out of space
3
This will be the 3rd appointment of the positions out of space series: as a forum
of architecture, i2a broadens indeed the scope to related and complementary
disciplines, receiving not only architects and artists (whose installations are set in
the institute’s gallery), but also landscape architects who reflect on territorial and
environmental topics by taking possession of the garden; an event turned towards
a wide audience, including children.
The installation - entitled In Wildwood 1 - plays with the concept of the passing of
time, of the ephemeral character of nature, of its transformations throughout the
seasons, of its winter rest followed by its spring awakening, to offer to the public
a new look on landscape. In the garden of i2a’s institute, a scene of a forest will
be recreated, a sort of large scale collage of fragments of nature, among which
young poplars, trunks of 12’000 year old trees recently discovered in Zurich - an
image of true timelessness -, papier-mâché trunks and projects by Winogrond
and Schweingruber Zulauf, in their interpretation of garden and space.
After the event - with interventions by Robin Winogrond, Lukas
Schweingruber and Dominik Bückers - those who wish can meet our
guests during a standing dinner (CHF 35.- per person all included,
reservations until Tuesday 2 October by calling 0041 91 996 13 87 or via
e-mail at [email protected]).
In case of rain, the evening will take place inside i2a’s head quarters.
The installation will be open to the public daily in i2a’s garden (Monday-Sunday
10am-8pm, free admittance) until the finissage, to be held Friday 23 May 2014.
With the support of the Repubblica e Cantone Ticino - Fondo Swisslos, of the
Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in
Birmensdorf and of Lüscher Gartenbau (Zurich).

positions out of space
Yearly edition that, along the lines of positions in space, consists in a series
of events for which landscape architects and planners are invited to create an
installation in i2a’s garden. They, in turn, invite one or more figures relevant to
their creative process. The goal is to trigger the public debate on topics related to
environment and landscape.
i2a: architecture forum
i2a istituto internazionale di architettura is the only architecture forum in Switzerland,
south of the Alps, dedicated to the study of topics related to territory, environment
and contemporary reality that promotes conferences, exhibitions, installations,
performances and didactic activities, also devised for children. The intention
is to increase the awareness of architecture’s role as an instrument for reading
and understanding contemporary phenomena, in a climate of openness and
dialog. i2a’s vocation is to widen the scope to other related and complementary
disciplines that examine the relationship between man and space. It is also an
artists’ residency and institution that hosts workshops and laboratories.
