Job Evaluation

Job Levels and
Career Development
Dear Diane
At AkzoNobel, we believe our business will grow if our people grow. As a part of our efforts to become a
talent factory focused on employee development, AkzoNobel is implementing one standard job evaluation
and job level system in the U.S. The U.S. job level system will create an organizational structure that
supports the AkzoNobel Success Factors and provides a framework for employee development.
AkzoNobel Services Inc has evaluated your job according to these standards and placed it into a job level.
How we evaluate your job
Each job within AkzoNobel is evaluated using the Hay Group method of job evaluation. Hay Group is a
global consultancy firm recognized for developing industry standard job evaluation practices. Jobs are
evaluated by HR professionals trained in the Hay methodology and reviewed by your Manager or
Department head. Once a job has been evaluated it is compared across all business units to similar jobs
and aligned for consistency within AkzoNobel. The goal of the evaluation process is to ensure all jobs are
placed in the appropriate job level.

What are job levels?
Job levels are used within AkzoNobel to create an organizational
structure. The job levels provide a framework for employee
development and career paths. The global job levels at left
progress from support jobs (G1 – G9) to middle management (MM1
- MM6) to executive levels. The job level also drives internal pay
methods and delivery. As you grow in your job level your reward
opportunity is greater.
What this information means to you
Job Levels align with AkzoNobel’s value of developing the talents
of our people. Knowing your job level can help with your
development plan and career goals. As you can see, development
can be either vertical or horizontal.
