30 Questions to Ask Your Child About School
Often parents ask their children, “What did you do at school today?” and
often they hear responses such as “nothing” or “I forget” which doesn’t
give you any information. Below are some more specific questions you can
ask your child to find out more about their school day.

2. Did you sing any songs? If so, what song?
3. What story did the teacher read today? Did you like it? Why or why
not?
4. What stories did you look at or read during independent reading time?
5. What was the best thing that happened in school today?
6. Tell me something that made you laugh today.
7. Who did you sit next to at snack or lunch?
8. Tell me a new word that you learned today.
9. What is your favorite part of the classroom?
10. If I called your teacher tonight what would he/she tell me about you?
11. How did you help somebody today?
12. How did somebody help you today?
13. Tell me one thing you learned today in (math, writing, science, etc.)
14. How were you kind to somebody today? How was somebody kind to
you?
15. Tell me about something you practiced in school today.
16. Who would you like to play with at recess that you’ve never played
with before?
17. What would you like to do/learn more of at school?
18. Who in your class do you think you could be nicer to?

21. Who is the nicest person in your class? What makes he/she so nice?
