Parenthood is not meant to carry The heaviest of burdens Throughout their lives An old grand ma removing coconut husk to make coir Youngsters often are misguided today, And expect others to provide their way Do not realize how fortunate they are When parents do their best all the way The craze for materialistic gains are on the way up None is satisfied or contended with what’s on their lap Needs are high, yet someone else is expected to pay Hard work is a bad word and for good luck, they pray! It is not an extra ounce of brain or luck gets you ‘cream’ Virtually everyone has the potential to reach their dream The concept of pre-planning has gone out of the window The ancient dictum every youngster should know 'When you fail to plan you are planning to fail' Parents and teachers do their best Lovingly carry even the extra weight Yet when a kid achieves his goal, Blood and sweat of parents forgotten And takes the glory, ‘as he did it all’ If there is however, a mishap, or a failure, there are plenty of ‘escape goats’ Opportunity deficits, parents and ill-luck Are identified as causes for their deficits The mango is sweet if you’ve plucked it, it is even sweeter, had you grown the tree If you’ve reached a high position in life It is a fraud to take the entire credit One who can see does not appreciate until the vision is totally gone one who can hear takes it for granted till he becomes’ bone deaf Every child assumes parents as his own property but when parents are feeble it is a different story Tables are turned they are busy and no patience Interest is focussed on transfer of the inheritance! When parents were giving and caring, Children took it all, not without complaining, Do not see the preciousness of the gift Till their parents eyes are permanently shut Some elderly parents with heaviness in heart Still do work to make children’s ends meet I address here, loud and clear parents and grandparents do not owe anything Except to give a decent start to their offspring Ariya
