ASSISTANT COACH
Role Descriptor
PURPOSE
Assist the Head Coach to ensure that all swimmers are able to participate in a safe and positive
environment, and that a well organised, appropriate and effective programme is delivered
MAIN FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
 Support the Head Coach to deliver a quality coaching programme appropriate to the ability
of all club swimmers
 Assist all swimmers to achieve their full potential with the objective of achieving local,
district and national standards as appropriate
 Support the Head Coach to provide clear, progressive and accessible development paths
for swimmers, and give feedback on their progression
 Support club development initiatives
 Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies, child protection, fair play and equal
opportunities to all members
 Attend and contribute to club coaches meetings

 Good organisation and communication skills
 Ability to motivate and make sessions enjoyable
 Reliable and trustworthy
 Approachable, friendly and patient
REQUIREMENTS
 PVG scheme membership
 Be a member of Scottish Swimming
 Sign and adhere to the club’s Coaches Code of Conduct
 Attend appropriate training
TRAINING
 Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 1 or 2
 Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop (renewable every 3 years)
 Appropriate CPD
TIME COMMITMENT
Up to 4 hours per week coaching and additional time to attend galas as agreed with the Head
Coach
