Contents: • Development of joint curriculum • Implementation of joint curriculum • National grading contra ECTS grading • 1 week = 1.5 ECTS? Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö Curriculum development difficulties • Different standards (how to write curriculum) • Different ways of teaching and learning • Different examination procedures Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö Curriculum development - solutions • Recognize QA procedure (in MoA) • Agree on learning outcome – before you start • Use a “Bologna influenced” template, focusing on outcome statements • A mixture of pedagogic approaches and examination forms is a strength, not a weakness Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö Curriculum implementation • If possible, use the joint curriculum (NL) • “Translate” and “adjust” the joint curriculum to fit national requirements (SWE & UK) • Recognize courses/modules from partners, based on MoA and accepted QA procedure Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö ECTS grading - difficulties • Are we allowed to use ECTS grading? Normally not • How to translate between ECTS grading and national systems? Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö ECTS grading - solutions • If ECTS grading allowed – no problem • If not – use ECTS and translate to national system if national system is coarser (SWE) • If not – use national system and translate to ECTS if ECTS is coarser (NL & UK) • If possible, award multiple transcripts from partners. If not translate to ECTS grading in diploma supplement. Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö Inflation in ECTS credits – problem or rumour • Is one week of studies different in different places in Europe? • Are ECTS credits related to workload of learning outcome? • Is it recommendable to allow different number of ECTS credits per week among partners – among Erasmus Mundus courses? Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö Conclusion • Always build on a true partnership – in ideas/aims, agreement and practice • Sort out QA • Accept and appreciate differences • Keep to standards and recommendations Consortium: GEM Speaker: Petter Pilesjö
