BOX JUDGING GUIDELINES The box judge sits near the box and looks for faults (see below). When there is a fault they raise their flag to notify the judge. Faults: 1. 2. 3. 4. Missing jumps Dog steals the ball from the box without triggering it Dog drops the ball and does NOT pick it up and continue over all the jumps Dogs crossing into another lane. The judge will call the heat and give the win to the other team Not A Faults: 1. A dog bobbles a ball. Bobbling is ok as long as the dog picks it up and does the jumps in order. 2. A dog drops the ball goes over a jump, comes back over the jump, gets the ball and continues over the jumps. 3. Hitting the jumps. A dog can hit the jumps and even knock them over or out of alignment but as long as the dog continues over the jumps it is ok. The judge will make a decision if the jump needs to be reset and the heat rerun. 4. If a jump is already knocked over or out of alignment all the dogs on that team must still go over all the jumps These are examples and there could be other faults or no faults not listed but these are the basic ones. LINE JUDGE GUIDELINES The line judge sits at the start/finish line and looks for faults (see below). When there is a fault they raise their flag to notify the judge. The line judge is also responsible for writing the win/loss/tie/NF along with total time for each heat on the C2 form. Faults: 1. Ball dropped early. This is when the dog drops the ball before crossing the line with the ball in its mouth. The nose of the dog is all that needs to cross the line with the ball. One sure sign the dog has spit/dropped the ball early is the ball hitting the floor before the line. 2. Dog drops the ball and does NOT pick it up and continue over all the jumps 3. Bad/early pass. If there is an early pass the light tree will have a red light that comes on briefly to signify a bad/early pass 4. False start. When the first dog goes through the sensors early the red light on the light tree will come on. The dog will get a second chance. If the light comes on a second time that dog must rerun or the race will be a no finish. Dogs on a Veteran’s Team do not rerun False Starts. 5. Dogs crossing into another lane. The judge will call the heat and give the win to the other team 6. Missing jumps Not A Faults: 5. A dog drops the ball goes over a jump, comes back over the jump, gets the ball and continues over the jumps. 6. Hitting the jumps. A dog can hit the jumps and even knock them over or out of alignment but as long as the dog continues over the jumps it is ok. The judge will make a decision if the jump needs to be reset and the heat rerun. 7. If a jump is already knocked over or out of alignment all the dogs on that team must still go over all the jumps 8. A dog spits/drops the ball as it is crossing the start/finish line. A dog’s nose is all the must cross while holding the ball to be considered a clean run.
