“To allow players opportunities to access appropriate levels of coaching and
support throughout the talent pathway, enabling the programme to reach
our ultimate goal in producing elite English female players to compete on the
world stage.”
FA Vision
What is a Centre of
Excellence?
What can you expect to receive
at a Centre of Excellence?
A Centre of Excellence (COE)
is an enhanced coaching
centre for U9,U11,U13, U15
& U17 age groups.
The CoE will provide excellent
training and support at fantastic
training facilities. Every player
will receive four hours per week
training and a weekly regional
fixture programme.
Players gain access to the
COE through a trial process
organised and delivered by
the local organisers such as
County FAs, Educational
establishments, Football
club community
programmes etc.
Having played schools,
grassroots and possibly PDC
football the next step of the
FA girls’ talent pathway is a
Centre of Excellence.
Players will be accepted into
a Centre of Excellence when
it is appropriate for the
player’s development.
Players will not be allowed to
play CoEs and grassroots clubs.
CoEs will also play in friendly
fixtures and festivals outside of
the region to gain more
knowledge and experience of
the games. U17 age groups will
compete in a national CoE cup.
You will be supplied with
training and match day kit. The
kit should be worn to all training
sessions and fixtures.
The CoE will provide all the
support needed to be an elite
player around all four corners of
a player’s development
(technical, physical, social and
psychological).
“We are committed to the development of players, to ensure they are given
the best opportunity, in the right environment to have fun, learn, develop
and achieve the best that they can be.”
Middlesex County FA’s Girls' Centre of Excellence is in its sixth season (Subject to license
being renewed) . The 2013-14 season sees the Middlesex County FA operating one of only
30 Centres of Excellence nationally.
The Centre will accommodate 62 players aged 7-17 within the playing programme which
challenges the skills and development of the players against other Centres within the South
West. There are also friendly matches arranged throughout the season against other centres
out of region. The games are observed by England scouts with elite players progressing
through to Regional and England training camps.
The Centre draws on the skills and experience of a variety of people: the coaching, medical,
welfare and administrative staff.
Training/Match Information
The Centre trains for 35 weeks throughout the season. Training sessions take place on a
Monday and Wednesday evening.
Monday sessions are Long Term Player Development Sessions. These focus on developing
players physical, technical, psychological and social skills.
Wednesday sessions are Fitness Sessions these are aimed to help improve and sustain
players overall fitness and stamina.
Matches are played on a Saturday morning. Home games are played at BA Concorde Club,
Crane Lodge Road, Cranford, Middlesex, TW5 9PQ.
Middlesex County FA Girls Centre of Excellence offers:
 Mid Term Reports/One-to-one meetings
Throughout the season coaches write player progress reports for the players. These
reports offer feedback of what players are doing well with and targets for them to work
towards to improve. Parents and players will then be invited to one-to-one meetings with their
coaches to discuss the reports and also speak about where the players are in terms of their
development.
The combination of these reports and meetings allow for multiple opportunities for players, parents
and coaches to review their progress.
 Tour
The older age groups at the centre will get the opportunity to go on a centre tour. In the 2012-13
season the under 15s and under 17s enjoyed a tour over the Easter break to Holland where they
competed with….. The option to attend the tour allows for team building and for the girls to get a
chance to experience playing teams from other countries whilst also developing.
 Access to Top Women’s matches
At the centre we arrange for the girls to have the chance to attend Women’s Super League (WSL)
Matches to see the top women’s teams in action this will show the girls the levels in which they
aspire to be and also the chance to see some of their idols in action. Last season we secured 162
tickets to allow the centre girls and parents to watch the Women’s Champions League Final. Whilst
we also worked with Chelsea WSL to provide a careers support session to all players considering
their future in the game.
 Player Social Events
The centre arranges pre season, Christmas and end of season social events for the players. This is a
chance for the girls to come together as a whole centre and relax and have fun.
Our End of season do includes player presentations to award the hard work of the girls throughout
the season with trophies awarded. Also we have photo opportunities for the girls so they have a
keep sake of their season.
 U17s Facebook and Twitter Account
Our under 17s have their own Facebook and Twitter account this is where the girls can keep in touch
with each other and also a place where our head coach can put important information for the girls
as wells as videos and pictures from their games.
 Parent Liaison Officer
At Middlesex CoE we pride ourselves on the provision of a parent liaison officer who is available at
training and games to provide support and guidance for parents. The officer will also act as a
stepping stone between parents and coaches.
 Nutrition Guidance and Support
As part of pre-season all teams will attend a nutrition presentation that will help structure their diet
for the coming season. As part of these workshops we also provide some basic information to set
players up for the season.
