PLAYER’S CODE OF CONDUCT
We believe student-athletes in the football program at Banning High School should exemplify the
highest ideas of scholarship, sportsmanship and citizenship. Young men in this program will be expected
to be courteous, respectful and responsible at all times. In addition to the rules governing all Banning
High School students, participants in the football program, will be governed by the following rules.
As a participant in Banning High School Football, I agree to the following code of conduct:
1. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
Players must be eligible according to the minimum CIF rules and the eligibility
requirements mandated by the Banning Unified School District. All players will
attend mandatory scheduled study hall. Each player will complete a weekly
progress report and turn it into the coaching staff.
2. ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY
Players will respond to a coach’s request for improvement in academic courses.
Player’s will seek and follow instructions and recommendations from teachers,
counselors, administration, and district personnel. Failure to do so will be
considered defiance of coach’s authority.
3. CLASS and SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Players must attend a minimum of four classes in a school day to be eligible for a
practice or a game. A missed game or practice will carry additional
consequences, and will count as a missed practice in the players’ allowable
missed practice total.
4. WORKOUT, PRACTICE, TEAM MEETING ATTENDANCE
Players must attend mandatory workouts, meetings, and activities on time.
Players must fill out a leave of absence form with a minimum of a 2 day notice
prior to the day or days they are going to miss. Players will be allotted 8
absences (excused and unexcused) for the entire football season. The football
season is defined as the time span that includes the first day of summer practice,
June 19, 2014 through to the last day of practice. Players must notify Coach
Stockham prior to any missed practices for any reason. Players who do not notify
Coach Stockham prior to missing practice will have consequences upon their
return. Failure to notify Coach Stockham prior to an absence will be regarded as
a “No Show”. Players will have a maximum of two “No Shows”. ”. A player and
Head Coach meeting will follow the first “No Show”. A player, Head Coach, and
Parent meeting will follow the second “No Show”. A
Player will be dismissed from the team following the third “No show” after a
meeting with player, Head Coach, parent, and Athletic Director.
A mandatory meeting or practice includes:
Spring & Summer weightlifting (25 mandatory summer lifting days)
Spring, summer, and fall football practice (April 28- Dec. 15th)
Study Hall
Meetings or team functions/activities
Spring & Summer weightlifting requirement: Each player is required to attend and participate in a
minimum of 25 summer strength and conditioning days. We believe that strength and conditioning are
necessary aspects of fitness that prevent injury and allow our student/ athletes to compete at optimum
levels. Please, refer to the 2014 Bronco Football calendar for a schedule of weight room dates and
times. Each player must have attended the lifting requirement total prior to the beginning of fall
football camp (July 28, 2014) to participate in the 2013 football season.
2014 Spring & Fall Football Season, study hall, team activities, and functions: The 8 allotted missed
practices carry over to the regular season.
Consequences for late or missed fall practices:
Late is defined as 30 minutes or less late to practice: Late to practice will result in one opportunity for
the first offense. Second late practice in a week will result in 2 opportunities and sitting out 1 quarter of
next game. 3rd late practice in a week will result in 4 opportunities and sitting out 1st half of next game.
30 minutes or more late to a practice will be counted as a missed practice.
1 Excused absence in a week: 1 opportunity with position coach.
1 Unexcused absence in a week: 2 opportunities with position coach, and must sit out 1st quarter of
next game.
2 Excused absences in a week: 2 opportunities with position coach, and must sit out a 2 quarters of next
game.
2 Unexcused absences in a week: 4 opportunities with position coach, and cannot dress for next game.
3 Excused absences in a week: 3 opportunities with position coach, and cannot dress for next game.
3 Unexcused absences in a week: 6 opportunities with position coach, 1 week suspension from
participation.
4 Excused absences in a week: 4 opportunities with position coach, cannot dress for next game.
4 Unexcused absences in a week: 8 opportunities with position coach, 2 week suspension from
participation, and must have administrative hearing on eligibility of athletic participation.
Players cannot donate blood on practice or game day.
5. BEHAVIOR
(A)
Unless otherwise indicated, infractions of rules in this section will result in an immediate
action consisting of, but not limited to: 1) immediate apology 2) Opportunity 3) Team
Suspension 4) team expulsion 5) BUSD Administrative action
(B)
Players will be respectful to all students, school employees, officials, parents, teachers,
and other students.
(C)
Players will be respectful to coaches, and will refer to coaches as “Sir” or “Coach”.
(D)
Players will be On Bronco Time to all football team functions. Bronco time is 10 minutes
prior to the start of a scheduled event.
(E)
Players will maintain composure during practice and games. They will not argue with or
demean officials, opposing coaches, or players.
(F)
Players will not curse or swear.
(G)
Players will refrain from horseplay or rough housing
(H)
Players will not litter in locker room or on campus.
(I)
Players will not allow non-team members in the Team Room.
(J)
Players will be responsible in completing all paperwork, such as physicals, clearances, and
equipment checkout etc.

Players will be honest. Players who cheat or lie will be punished and/or dismissed.

Players will treat school property with care. Vandalism will be punished and could result
in a monetary fine or prosecution by the school
(M)
Players will not steal. Anyone found stealing from the locker room or a teammate will
be dismissed without a second chance.
6. CARE AND USE OF EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS

Players will dress properly for workouts, practices and games. No player will modify or
alter issued equipment, or wear any equipment not issued by the school WITHOUT
coach’s permission.
No cut off jerseys. Also do not alter sleeves or hem jersey in any way.
Practice Uniforms are taken home every Thursday after practice and cleaned.
Approved protective gear only.
Mouthpieces must be worn and molded properly.
Member of the coaching staff must fit helmets and Shoulder Pads.
Full uniform for practice and game including all pads must be worn.
No white tape on uniforms.
No jewelry or watches (religious medals must be taped down)
Team approved socks for games.
Team Approved Color shoes (cleaned for games)
Any player not in uniform will be given Opportunity.
You are responsible for each piece of equipment you check out.
Document all ID nos. so lost/misplaced gear can be returned to proper owner.

All equipment will be turned in on time. Or within 2 days of last attended practice/game.
It is your responsibility to turn in your equipment. Not ours to collect it from you.
Any athlete who has not turned in equipment or owes money will not be allowed to
participate in the awards banquet and will be issued a debt/fine card by the finance
office. You will not be issued any other athletic gear for any sport until the equipment is
returned or is paid for.

All trainers/ student trainers are members of the coaching staff.
Players will inform coach/trainer immediately upon sustaining any injury.
Trainer will provide head coach a daily participation/limitation list for each player
receiving any type of treatment.
Players will participate according to prescribed limitations
Injured players will report every day to trainer until finished with treatment.
Players will report to trainer after games for evaluation and/or referral to SPORT CLINIC
on Saturday for treatment.
Players must be cleared medical personal that treated/diagnosed injury. Please use
judgment when seeing your personal physicians.
There will be no loitering or horseplay in the training room.

Players will be properly groomed and dressed during the season. The school dress code
will be strictly enforced. In the spirit of team togetherness-nothing that displays
outlandish individuality will be tolerated.
Long Hair Limits the effectiveness of a properly fitted helmet.
Beards or long sideburns can cause rashes/burns on side of face.
No earrings or any piercing rings of any type to be worn at any football practice/game.
No clothing to display any suggestive, lewd, or inappropriate messages.
Hats if worn will be on straight and removed when indoors.
Players will be required to wear game day attire (white dress shirt, team tie, and black
slacks) on game days and travel on game days.

Players are expected to travel to and from games with the team unless excused by his
coach to exceptional circumstances and with prior meeting with player’s parents.
Players represent BHS while traveling – show class.
There will be no talking on the bus while going to a game.
Music/Headphones must be at a level to not distract anyone else around you.
Players will ride appropriate busses as determined by position/level.
Cleats will not be worn on BUSD Busses.
Make sure you keep track of your personal belongings and keep busses clean.
10. EARLY TERMINATION

No player may quit the team without talking it over with head coach.
No one will be excused from participation in football without the express permission of
the head coach.
If you decide to quit the team you are responsible for turning in all of your equipment.
No player will participate in any other sport during the football season.
11. TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, DRUGS

Players will not use alcohol at any time.
Players will not use drugs or possess drug paraphernalia.
The use of drugs includes recreational, steroids, performance enhancing substances, or
illegal drugs or narcotics.
The Banning Bronco Football Program and Banning Unified School District have a ZERO
TOLERANCE POLICY in regards to these substances. There are no second chances. This is
your warning.
Players who are reported to the coaches, as alcohol or drug users will be given the
opportunity to seek help.
Players who use alcohol or drugs during the season will be suspended or dismissed from
the team.
All Banning Football Team Members will agree in writing to submit to random drug,
testing per Banning USD BP 5131.61, BP5131.63.
14. COURTESY/INSUBORDINATION/DEFIANCE
Players will follow all directions and direct commands of those in authority.
15. HAZING
Any player involved with any form of initiation or hazing, or exhibitions of public
ridicule will be dealt with in accordance to school and legal guidelines. HAZING
IS AGAINST THE LAW. It will not be tolerated. New members to the program
will be welcomed as BRONCOS and treated with respect deserved to a Banning
Bronco Football Player.
16. CAVEAT
The head coach has the authority to rule and apply consequences for any other items regarding
player conduct not covered in this Players Code of Conduct as long as it is fair and consistent
with the established guidelines covered in this contract.
BANNING BRONCO ATHLETIC PLEDGE
1. I WILL study and complete my assignments and make every effort to earn a
better than average academic grade.
2. I WILL strive to be as positive and enthusiastic at all times.
3. I WILL be loyal to my teammates, the coaches, and to my school at all times.
4. I WILL abide by the training rules; because of my desire to realize my 100%
potential.
5. I WILL attend all practice sessions and meetings. Conflicts will be arranged in
advance.
6. I WILL be punctual to all meetings and practices, and at school for all classes.
7. I WILL put forth 100% effort at all times.
8. I WILL limit my social life in the belief that if I make certain sacrifices and
commitments for athletics.
9. I WILL use clean language to show respect to my parents, school, and
opponents.
10. I WILL respect my teammates, their strengths and weaknesses. The team will
come first.
11. I WILL respect my equipment as if it were my own. I will pay for all issued
items not returned.
