Fiat Scratch is Pavasovic’s most recent and internationally most recognized project. It is inspired by worn
out jeans and is designed around the ‘scratch happy’ bumper idea. A full scale model is currently being
exhibited in various places all over the world. The material for the model was supplied by RAMPF Tooling,
Grafenberg.
Bumpers are covered in coloured and textured layers that create colourful scratches when scratched. The
vintage, weathered, one-of-a-kind-casual aesthetic shows no signs of fading and that is the trend Pavasovic applied to cars. Many who gladly pay a premium for denim that's been destroyed by hand would
likely find this ‘scratch happy’ car appealing.
When the car is scratched, the colours surface creating coloured patterns on the body. With every nick
and scuff the car becomes more personalized to its owner and a truly unique exterior is created.
Every Fiat Scratch driver thus owns a unique car custom designed by him self reflecting his cool and
carefree attitude - an attitude widely admired. The more scratched the car the cooler!
Fiat Scratch – the story
Fiat Scratch was originally designed as Pavasovic’s final MA project at the Royal College of Art and presented as a quarter scale model at the summer show 2006 in London. The response from public and design community was extremely positive and the car was noticed by the Museum of modern and contemporary art in Rovereto / Italy where the scale model is currently exhibited at the exhibition on history and
future of cars ‘Mitimacchina’. Such an overwhelming response to the scale model motivated Pavasovic to
build and present it as a full size show car at the Detroit Car Show.
Not only the design but also the way it was built was quite unique and very different to conventional show
cars that are usually designed and built by large car corporations.
Pavasovic designed the Fiat Scratch independently and based in London coordinated its fabrication in
Slovenia and Germany (RAMPF Tooling) with carefully coordinated work of several teams scattered in
locations from San Francisco, Toronto to Stuttgart (RAMPF Tooling) and Ljubljana. Using digital design
technologies and taking full advantage of latest communication technologies allowed Pavasovic to create
his designs globally with his global network of partners. RAMPF Tooling supported Pavasovic with its
Close Contour Paste RAKU-TOOL® CP-6070 which was applied onto a supporting structure made out of
board material SB-0080 to create a full scale model of the car.
Close Contour Paste is especially suitable for the production of large scale models. It is easily machined
and has got a good dimensional stability.
As the creator of the first polyurethane board material RAMPF Tooling became renown internationally.
Today the company is offering solutions that are used in almost every phase from design to production.
The key applications are prototyping, modeling, styling, casting, laminating, as well as metal forming.
