Paul Johnson Now a golf professional, Johnson said his wife tells him that he lives at the golf course as he helps others pursue the game he is still passionate about. Born in Louisville, Ky., Johnson graduated from high school in Niceville, Fla., and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery where he played on the golf team. While at Huntingdon, he was a two-time All-American and NAIA National Champion in 1992 and 1994. College was also where Paul Johnson he met his wife Michelle, who is former Christian Education director at Daphne United Methodist Church and currently a senior admissions counselor for Huntingdon. After his career as a PGA player was ended by an injury, Johnson became head golf professional at Lake Forest Country Club where he works year round supervising all the golfing activities including scheduling of tee times, clinics and tournaments. His real passion, according to Johnson who has played golf since adolescence, is teaching and encouraging young players to get involved with golf on a regular basis. From September through May, after-school clinics are available for kids as young as 5 up through high-school age in More Press-Register Community News Johnson’s ASWING program, an acronym for "Athletic Students With an Interest in Golf." Most Comments Clinics are scheduled once each week for 5- to 8-year-olds, 8- to 12year-olds, and teens. On Fridays during the school year, Johnson coaches what he considers his "elite" players — middle and high school students who are serious about the sport and aspire to play on high school and college golf teams. Most importantly, Johnson said, "we are building leaders for tomorrow one swing at a time by teaching sportsmanship, teamwork and dedication." His efforts with young people in this area over the last 11 years since he began at Lake Forest resulted in Johnson being named Dixie Sectional PGA Junior Golf Leader of the Year in 2008. Although his professional life consumes much of his time, Johnson enjoys time with his family and has already involved all three of his children who range in age from 5 to 13 in the sport. They also enjoy traveling together, visiting grandparents in Louisville and north Florida, and playing "Geocache," a GPS-aided treasure hunting game, along the way.
