THINGS TO HAVE DONE BEFORE YOU COME:
 Daisies – Petal work: Think about and discuss “respecting myself and others” and “responsible for what








I say and do” in regard to visiting a working pottery studio with fragile pieces belonging to other people.
Brownies – #1 Find Some Pottery: Look around your house. Make a list of all the ceramics and pottery
you use. Tile? Dishes? Art? Jewelry? Knobs? Garden art? Fridge magnets? Other things?
Juniors – Research the “Playing the Past” badge (aMuse) for a toy/game you could create in clay!
Cadettes – Research “Cook” or “Girl Scout Ways” to create a dish or GS ceremony candle holder to use.
Seniors – Research “Cook-Localvore” or “Room Makeover” to create garden markers or decorative art.
Ambassadors- Research “Water” or Cook–Dinner Party” to make some water art or place card holders.
Cubs – Work on and plan for: Tiger “Stories in Shapes” art project, Wolf “Digging the Past” make a fossil
cast, Bear “Marble Madness” create some old-fashioned clay marbles and/or small game board.
Webelos – Prep AOL Elective ADVENTURE: Art Explosion b & c: sculpt a simple form to be fired.
Boy Scouts – Pottery merit badge work: Research how 3 different kinds of potters wheels work,
research how kilns work, and come up with several questions to ask about the profession of potter. Bring
your pottery badge workbook and pamphlet.
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:











There is a covered picnic shelter and outdoor play area adjacent to the studio.
Food and drink must be consumed outside the studio.
Parking is limited; please carpool or have parents drop off.
Extra people such as parent carpool drivers and siblings are not included in the Scout workshop
fee or waiver and are expected to be occupied elsewhere during workshop.
Childcare is not available. For safety, the studio does not allow children younger than 5.
Wear clothing that can get dirty and messy, not uniforms.
Long hair needs to tied back or confined in a hat.
The studio requires closed-toe shoes, not flip-flops, crocs, or sandals.
Remember to bring any Scout recognition worksheets needed for signature.
For the safety of humans and pots, the instructor is in charge of the studio and all people in it
during the workshop. You are expected to listen to instruction and safety guidelines and work
only in areas as directed.
Clean up of tools and surfaces is the responsibility of the group; plan your time accordingly.
THINGS TO RECALL AFTER IT ALL:
Adult leaders are responsible for picking up their group’s finished pieces following the
workshop. Studio staff will notify when ready.
