If you are in compliance with the requirement for an IID, it will be reflected on your driver license record and a P

replacement fee $31.25 would apply.)

If you are not in compliance because you have not had an IID installed on your vehicle(s), this will also be reflected
on your driver license record. When this occurs, you must visit an ID vendor (see below) to have the IID installed
on your vehicle(s). After having your IID installed, you will need to visit our office to have the P restriction added to
your driver license record.

SANCTIONS DURING IID TIME PERIOD
You cannot get credit for complying with the IID (P restriction) requirement during a period of time in which you were
not legally eligible to drive. The time period served must be continuous without interruption as a result of revocations,
suspensions and/or cancellations.
Therefore, the IID (P restriction) time period will start over any time you lose your driving privilege for unrelated
revocations, suspensions and/or cancellations.
If you have an IID installed and a P restriction on your record and you request to reinstate driving privileges for an
unrelated revocation, suspension or cancellation, our office is obligated to notify the Division of Driver Licenses in
Tallahassee.
EXCEPTIONS FOR IID INSTALLATION

Medical Exceptions: If you are unable to operate an IID for medical reasons, you will need to contact the Bureau of
Driver Improvement at (850) 617-2505. In all cases, you will be required to submit medical documentation that will
be considered by the Medical Review Board. If approved, a Medical Waiver will be issued and an indication of this
will be placed on your driver license record. You will still be required to serve your revocation period, but you will
be exempt from IID requirements.

Employment Vehicle Exceptions: If you are required to operate a company-owned motor vehicle in the course and
scope of your employment, you may operate that vehicle without installing an IID in it, provided your driving
privilege has been reinstated (you have a hardship license). Your employer must be notified in writing of your
driving privilege restriction and that documentation must be kept in the vehicle. This exception would not apply if
you are the owner of the company. Call (850) 617-2505 for complete details.
OUT-OF-STATE IID COMPLIANCE
If you have questions about using an out-of-state vendor to install your IID (you live in another state), call (850) 6172505 for assistance. The Bureau of Driver Improvement will determine if the out-of-state vendor will be able to comply
with Florida’s IID requirements.
If approved, it will be reflected on your driver license record. Note: The Division of Driver Licenses in Tallahassee will
not accept an out-of-state vendor installation for customers who live in Florida.
CANCELLATIONS FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY
Your driving privilege will be cancelled as a result of any of the following:





Failure to report for IID vendor download appointment
Failure to pay vendor fees
Failure to schedule an IID violation appointment
Failure to report for treatment referral
Early de-install of IID
When your driver license has been cancelled for one of these reasons, you must call (850) 617-2505 for assistance. In
all cases, the IID time period will start over unless you comply prior to the effective date of the cancellation.
