How to Run the StepAhead Interactive Tools (Games, Puzzles, Demos) without an Internet Connection The Games, Puzzles and Demos were designed to be launched online so that the user would always have the latest version. In the event that this is not possible (i.e.: a class room where no internet connection is available), there is a way for users to run the tools without an Internet connection. To do this, the user must have used the tools online at least once. This can be done at home before class or an area with wireless. It doesn’t matter. On a Windows Xp/Vista Machine: 1. Go to the Start Menu, click on Control Panels. Make sure that you are in Classic View (can be changed on the left hand side). The screen should look similar to the one below. Look for the Java icon and double-click. 2. This should be the window you see when you’ve opened the Java Control Panel. Make sure you are in the “General” Tab (top left hand corner), then click on the “View” button in the Temporary Internet Files Pane (bottom of the window) 3. Next, you should have the “Java Cache Viewer” open up and it should look similar to the window below. Select “StepAhead Interactive Learning Tools” and click on it with the right mouse button. An option listed as “Run Offline” should come up and you will be able Use all the Interactive tools. On a Macintosh Computer (Mac OS X 10.4/10.5) 1. Go to the /Applications/Utilities/Java directory. 2. Double Click on Java WebStart 3. Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click on the StepAhead Interactive Learning Tools and selecte “Create Desktop Application” 4. A Prompt will come up for you to save the new Program whereever you would like. 5. Go to that location and double-click on the Application to begin using the tools. 6. From this point onward, you will be able to simply double click on the file you have just created however, anytime you would like an updated version of the Games/Puzzles/Demos, you will have to repeat all the steps.
