ocean between Chile and Tahiti.
It is considered a very special territory of Chile.

Jacob Roggeveen was the first person to discover
Easter island.
The official languages are Spanish and Rapa Nui.
The people who lived there were the Polynesians.
The Population

The population of Easter Island has been very high
and at times been quite low.
In the next slide you will see how the population
suddenly dropped from Slave raiders taking over
and capturing tons of people.
When the slave raiders finally let the captured
Polynesians go, most of them had already died
from tuberculosis or small pox.

The statues are made of volcanic rock.
These statues are huge with big noses ad big puffy
lips.
