Suiting up is as easy as joining us along with our founding chairmen Hannah and Cal McNair and host chairmen Jon and Amanda Weeks and Megan and Brian Cushing at our Game Day Gala Friday, April 21, 2017 at Ecclesia. The event scores big with your favorite NFL players, incredible auction items, games and quite a few surprises we just can’t wait to share. The Game Day Gala benefits Project 88, an organization Garrett and I started to positively impact the lives of Houston area students as they approach college. According to a 2014 report, the statewide average for Texas public high schools exceeded 400 students per counselor, and in Houston, the average was nearly 700 students per counselor. As a result, many Houston-area students lack access to information about applying for college, a process that can be complicated and overwhelming without the proper guidance. Project 88 works to improve that ratio and bridge the gap between students and higher education institutions in several ways: • We partner with Advise TX (TAMU) to place exceptional recent college graduates from all fields of study on high school campuses, as near-peer college advisors to lead low-income and first-generation students to college. During the 2015-2016 school year, Project 88 was able to place eight Advise TX college advisers to serve in Houston-area public schools, and we placed six college advisers to serve in Houston-area public schools for the 2016-2017 school year. • We team up with Rice University and the Young Owls Leadership Program (YOLP) program to sponsor summer programs, as well as the EMERGing Leaders Institute (ELI) at Rice University in July. The ELI is a critical component of our ongoing efforts (with the EMERGE program) to support our HISD scholars, many of whom will be the first in their family to go to college. • We select students from HISD schools to represent Project 88 within their schools on our Young Leadership Board. These students participate in Project 88 events, volunteer opportunities, and peer leadership circles. They also attend our Project 88 sponsored summer camp, in hopes that they can become voices for generational change, and vessels for hope, within their schools and communities. All the funds from the Game Day Gala will go toward supporting these initiatives for the 2017-18 school year. By sponsoring the Game Day Gala, you help connect underserved students to opportunity, which ignites generational change. We believe that ALL students are capable of productive and successful futures. Enclosed is the information about the events. We look forward to changing lives together. Sincerely, Ericka and Garrett Graham Founders
