Every Child Ready to Read created 5 Early Literacy Practices to help parents and caregivers nurture early literacy anywhere at anytime. Here are the five practices: Talk about the activity or book you are sharing with your child. Sing or make up songs while doing chores, building blocks, etc. Read books, magazines, signs, and much more with your child. Write the letters of the alphabet, create a story, or draw shapes. Play makes learning fun, so play with words, books, puppets, etc. to reinforce your child’s pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Parents, you are your child’s first teacher, and you already use these 5 practices everyday to support early literacy. Through Every Child Ready to Read, you can learn new ways to expand and explore reading and writing with the 5 practices. Bridgeton Public Library ~ 150 E.
